I knew that worked in the original game but wasn't sure if the "scary red eyed wolves" would be immune to it! I will def. give it a try. Thanks.

I've found it still works, I'm in PL (which is new for me after being away from game for 1-2yrs) I've got a hunting knife & 10 flares atm, & have only been surviving on them & torches while trying to find my way around & find gear. have found no caches this time round so far

Torches, flares and gunshot sounds. They come back tho so use it to back away. Aurora Wolves, not sure they're afraid. Probably tougher than 1 shot 1 kill too.

Torch, lit flare make wolves stop before charge. Campfire scare then.
I've looted Quonset in middle of 6-8 wolves, making "trail" of camp fire between houses.
Trow torch sometimes scare then, but don't rely in this.

A thing to notice is the high failure in lit camp fire, I have 4 failures in row - 2 using accelerator.

If you hold a flare, the wolf will stop about 10 yards before you and growl instead of attacking.
You have to look at him though. Walk backwards for a while, facing the wolf. Ideally you can save yourself in a house or car. Otherwise you can also sprint around a hill to break line of sight, this often loses the wolf.

For today you need the flashlight, torch and flare don't scare, I know I'm rhyming but I just don't care

Aurora wolves are scared of electric light. Stand in the spotlight of a street lamp and they can't touch you. However, keep in mind the lights do go out randomly.

The flashlight is the only lightsource you can carry that stops aurora wolves. Flares and (flame)torches no longer work. You can use the high-beam of the flashlight to stop the wolf. However, don't try the trick of switching to rifle and shooting them when they stop like that - they will attack as soon as the beam of light is off. Instead, back away and into a street-lamp spotlight, and snipe them from there.

Uh oh I am screwed, no flashlight for me and I just hit PV! :steamsad:

Update: Aurora wolves cannot enter the circle around camp fires. If in a pickle, quickly start making a camp fire. Even if you're only STARTING the fire, wolves cannot approach it.

Worth noting, aurora wolves also seem to ignore bait. Tried baiting a few and they kept growling and approaching me instead.

Luckily, I just happened to notice a cache with a Flashlight. Wasn't easy to get to, but managed it without the wolf guarding it attacking.
