Wolves in the Fishing Huts?
Did I miss something in recent patch notes?
As recently as last month, if a wolf wandered too close to a fishing hut (at least while I was in it) the wolf would get frightened and run off.

Yesterday, it ran straight in side with out hesitation and wrecked me pretty baddly. Was this behavior changed in recent updates? Previously I could use fishing huts as a safe zone when wolves were on the lake (even ones without doors).

I just wasn't sure if this was an intended change or a bug... if any one has any insight please let me know.

*Update*

I took this screenshot so you could see the aftermath of the carnage...

Depends on how close you were to the doorway. If you were right next to it (or only a step inside or so) wolves can sometimes get you there.

If you were deep inside, then that's probably a bug.

I retreated all the way to the back of the hut... and it made a bee line light thought the door way and mauled me.

Aye. That is not supposed to happen, as far as I know. Sounds like a bug, you may want to report it.

I’m not sure it is a bug. My understanding is that if they have scented you outside and ‘locked on’, they can follow you if you retreat into a cave or hut. But if you are just doing your thing (sleeping/fishing), you will never be attacked in a cave or hut.

I don’t know with 100% confidence that this is correct, but everything I’ve seen is consistent with that, including the few times wolves have followed me into caves.

I also know that some of the braver souls use this as a way to coax a bear into a cave so it can be killed and harvested in the warmth of a cave.

My experience has been up until the most recent update I could duck into places like portches, fishing huts, and the fenced area at the dam (and post office) to get them off you and if they ventured too close they would get skitish and run off yelping. I'm just trying to figure out what changed.

Strange, I didn't find that in any of the patch notes that I could find... either way it cost me a lot of clothing damage, but on the bright side... I ate for a week :steamhappy:

Well, the wolf caught my scent and started to pursue me across Mystery Late... I managed a short sprint to try and widen the gap... I ducked into the fishing hut (in the screenshot) and crouched down in the back. The wolf continued to stalk and snarl. Right around the range they would usually turn tail and run, it went in to a charge... ran right through the doorway in a full sprint and bit me in the face.

Just yesterday a wolf spotted me with an IF hut near both of us. I reached hut first and crouched in the back as close as I could to the cabinets. He slowly walked in front of the entrance and I killed him with a bow shot.

I loved using the porches as a "blind" like the ones at Waterfront Cottages at CH. But I always get attacked at Paradise Farm and Milton House in MT.

Ok, stupid check (something I forgot once)...

Did you have the flare gun? Next time, once you crouch, just shoot a flare out that door at anything. No more problem.

Wolves absolutely will do this now. Not a bug. It's in a patch a few months back.

As they should, in my opinion. Open doors, stairs to open porches, railings with openings, easyily jumped heights... these things would not stop an insane, starving, and angry wolf in real life, if they were chasing a squirrel, or rabbit, or wild turkey. Now that human is on the menu, why should it be different? They (and bears) should not clip through walls or the side of a vehicle. But an open door or space? Yep. Feels right now.

I agree with you... it always felt like a little bit of an exploit, I don't dislike the change... I was just surprised by it since it was rare for me to run a foul of a wolf like that. Most of the time I have a wolf encounter nowadays is either when I am actively hunting one, or bad luck comng over a blind hill/corner.

Now I know I can't just jump on a portch or duck into a hut... I think that's great. I just didn't know if it was a bug or an updated feature. I'm happy to know it was an intentional change.

Lol! Yeah, the first few times I thought I could run onto a porch or into and open door hut, carrying meat or fish or stinky-something, being chased by a wolf, or trying to evade one... and suddenly *OMNOMNOMNOM* **gurgle gurgle gasp gah**
Well, that just happened... O_O
It was eye-opening, even though it was something a number of us asked for in Wish List threads.
:)
