Stats for Improvised Knife and Hatchet
I am getting closer to my first forge run. I did a quick search of the forum but didn’t find any specific comparison stats between the improvised and the standard versions of the knife and hatchet. I do know the improvised knife weighs more (I found one) than the standard one; however, I’d still like more comparison data between them.

Aside from weight difference (I will assume the improvised hatchet weighs more as well), is there any difference in rate of deterioration per use or damage inflicted upon wolves?

Well, do you have the achievement yet for forging a complete set? If not, and you have all of the needed mats, make a hatchet, a knife, and as many arrowheads as you can. Get the achievement, stash the knife and hatchet for emergency use. On Stalker you really should never need to forge imp tools, until really, really late game. But it's nice to get that achievement out of the way, and get experience using the forge. As long as you are already there... make all 3. If you are at Spence, in FM. On the Riken, CF becomes an issue. At Spence, cold and wolves are your issues. Choices... lol!

They do decay slightly faster per use. Scroll down the tables here to tools, and you can see the differentce between a regular knife/hatchet and the improivised versions...

You will aslo see that their breaking threshold is said to be at a higher condition %, so they are more "fragile". No idea about damage to wolves, since that is generally a bit of RNG, depending on how strong the wolf is(?). There might be something on it on the online forums, but you can search there yourself if you really need a spreasheet on it. :p

Good point on the RNG; pretty hard to measure something like that so only a hard table with programmed damage stats would do. Just need to decide whether to bother crafting them at this stage. I’ll probably just start with arrowheads and go from there. I’m on Stalker, so knives and hatchets are around to be found.

I'm definately going to try Spence, when I find it. I've just dipped my toe into FM (died there multiple times due to random spawns very early in life) and am planning to slowly map it by setting up bases with provisions so I can move around and get shelter when needed. Exploring is the best part of the game!
