Just found a Third cave in Mystery Lake
There's one cave by the cabins.
There's one cave by op top of the ledge by Dave's silent clearing on top of the tunnel collapse, with a rope going down to the lake cabins.

But after all this time, just now I saw a double rope climb that leads to a cave, just past Alan's cave and following the southern access.

The 3 trees at the very top, in this pic, that's where the cave is.

But I think that you can easily get there by the camp office.

There's a deer carcass and an advance guns and ammo book and a corpse in the cave, few rabbits.

Yep. I always like to check this spot very soon because there's a chance of an Xparka up there.

Apart from the corpse there's no container or back pack nothing, which was kinda disappointing.

Well done Stewy - I think that may well be 'Overlook' - one of the places you need for your Cartographer's achievement - there is a wolf that patrols near that area - not there exactly, but nearby - on the way up from Camp Office end.

What you get, if anything, depends on your level :steamhappy:

Yeah you can walk up the hillside
I find it hard to believe this could have escaped anyone's notice. Even if you never climb the ropes, its easy enough to get to just walking up the other side. I remember the site well, cause it was my first death, soon after my first spawn.

It happens, I have 750+ hrs in this game and this is the first time I saw this cave, and rope or even being mentioned. There are of nooks that can be found just like the gate in Broken Railroad. I keep exploring CH hoping that there a cave that nobody has found but nothing.

If you can get up from the Camp Office that would definitely make staying there a viable option.
Just saying that being Mystery Lake and all, the Lake Overlook (named location), the deer carcass, and the nearby cave and rabbit grove are usually discovered sooner rather than later...

I've not yet experience it myself, but this is likely everyone's Camp Office Cabin Fever Cave... The path from the office can be a bit steep, with risk of sprain if not careful. The slope is more gentle but longer coming from the backside (Carter, railroad) to the cave. Just don't fall down into the river access ravine, its a long way round either direction.

It's like I discovered a new small cave just under the Hunting Lodge cliff today.... Always surprising. :steamhappy:

Yes, you can get there from camp office by hiking up the hill straight across when you walk out the door. It used to be easier but they made it a little harder now.
There's often a backpack there too. But that deer carcus is valuable on Interloper. I never use the ropes going up, but sometimes going down.

Can get up from silent clearing so no climbing needed

I just had a funny experience outside this cave. I had left 3 guts over by the deer blind down the way from this cave, so I set out to grab them and then I was going to climb the ropes and harvest the deer up by this cave as well, but that wolf was hanging out so I had to take the long way around.

It got dark on me and a wolf picked up the scent and followed me all the way up there and I didn't know it. I started my fire by the carcus and next thing I know, I hear him growling. No worries because I had a 3-1/2 fire going, but as I was carving and cooking, I could hear him running around killing all the rabbits. I think I heard 4 rabbit squeels throughout the time.

I lit a torch and started walking to camp office. I heard him behind me so I dropped a decoy and never looked back. Made it back safely.

I was very disturbed after the Sentinel update...that was my first time a wolf tracked me up to Overlook. Never had an issue with that before, but maybe just lucky in the past. Scent 2 brought it up from either the lake or Derailment, never figured that out.

Serious pain for me because I was doing chores in the cave, so trapped once he was in the scared/return cycle.

I feel lucky he didn't get there a little sooner because it was night, I lit a torch and was casually picking up sticks and looting the cave. Started my fire just in time. I hurried up and ate the meat because it raised me to 2 bars and I was worried about attracting even more wolves.

You know what though, I wonder if you just drop all the meat and guts and wait if the wolf goes back to his home spot? Hard saying becuase of the rabbits. They seemed to keep spawning pretty fast as he was killing them.

Yeah I've never had the time to really analyze what brings a wolf back to you when it yips off scared. It's almost like they're auto locking back on to you regardless of Scent. Or maybe the campfire that scared them.
