Breathe sound
How can i turn off the annoying breathing sound

One thing that I have come to love about the game, without voices, is the isolation that comes with only hearing the sounds of the forest and the crunching of the snow under your boots.

Don't sprint? Intentionally kill off your character, perhaps?

Never tried to turn it off, I actually like the audio cues the game gives. But maybe in the Options> Audio settings, you can turn it off or down with Master/Sound/Voice? Can't say which one, if any will remove the breathing, but can guess that adjusting any will also alter other audio cues in the game. You can turn on subtitles in Options>Display, but that only gives text for the spoken words of your character, no cues like wolf footsteps or growling, or crows, ect.

Not sure there is a way to remove *only* breathing sounds.

Huh. I have never really noticed the heavy breathing sound, unless I have my character going up steepish slopes, sprinting, doing physical tasks like chopping wood, or moving around while carrying everything she owns on her back. No need to have 70 lbs of stuff in your pack, while organinzing your base, or playing cards. But, I am not usually wearing headsets, usually using surround sound speakers. So I could be missing some of the more subtle sounds.

This is one complaint I have too. I expect to breath hard when running, climbing, walking but after an hour of passsing time??? Very annoying. I wear Bose headsets now and hear everything so I realize how annoying this feature is.
+1

yeah character has had a broken rib for 6 months now and only manufactured found painkillers will cure it so have to put up with breathing pain sound constantly. Used to be able to turn down/off voices but now this comes under master volume. Kinda makes my sandbox game unplayable.

You can also use rosehips, not just painkillers. Check the afflictions tab to see what is needed to heal broken ribs.

Really? I personally can't stand it because it seems like Will's always huffing and puffing with minimal effort. My greatest wish for this game is an option to turn it off. I'll mute my speakers sometimes because I'm so tired of hearing it. Every time I need to run, which is often playing DMC, I get rewarded with this annoying, guttural, loud, panting.

Will really needs to do more cardio. He's clearly not in very good shape. :steamsalty:
It could be I don't notice it because I rarely play as the male survivor, and because I am married to a guy who is a heavy breather (especially when his MS is flaring), and I've just unconsciously learned to tune it out. He tells me I snore at 150 dB, but I never hear that either. ;-)

Prior to the 1.99 release, the Voice slider found under Options/Audio worked to eliminate all voice and voice related sound effects, including the heavy breathing.
Since 1.99 the slider no longer works.

HL claims they are working on fixing this but they've been saying that for some time.

You can still eliminate most, if not all voice related sounds in a Custom game by selecting No for the Survivor Monologue.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I've only payed custom games for quite some time. I bought TLD back in '17 and it wasn't long before I turned the voice stuff off. Very annoying to me.

As you mentioned @Lenny Rat, the isolation is one of the things I like about this game and the voice acting just kind'a kills it for me too.

Then I found out that In custom games there's another dialogue option that can be turned off and I've been playing custom ever since.

I did hear a You Tuber complain about the volume of the character voice shortly after the 1.99 release and said the slider didn't work anymore, and there's a few posts about this issue over at the 'official' forums.

Surely this isn't a difficult fix? Why is it taking so loooooong?!!

+1 for me , its really annoying everything you run which is often, have to hear him puffing, whole game ends up just hearing that sound. BUT fear not its super easy to get rid of it, simply go into options > audio and put VOICE way down and TADA problem solved. Then just enable subtitles so in events where talking is occuring you can still read whats said.
