Is this a question?

If you are looking for a complete map of all areas and related loot you can find many online; however, the best map is the one you personally develop over time as you methodically travel place to place.

After all, the basis of the game is that you crash in a remote area with nothing but your wits. I highly recommend that you approach it this way and suggest you will derive much more wnjoyment as a result.

Well, they kinda all are depending on your playstyle. Mystery Lake is usually a good map to start on though if that's what you're wondering.

If you are asking for the best "region" to start a Survival run, there is a decent assessment here: http://thelongdark.wikia.com/wiki/Region
Coastal Highyway has lots of loot but also has a lot of wolves, Timberwolf Mountain has fantastic loot if you can make it to the summit but has pretty much no shelter, Desolation Point is death, Pleasant Valley is death, and Mystery Lake is pretty balanced.
Oh and Mountain Town is death too :)

But they are easy to see and avoid on the ice. For long term survival it's one of the best maps.

Also an easily accessed coal mine

Best map for survival, not starting map (mainly because of preponderance of wolves) is Coastal Highway - in my experience.

Best starting/beginners's map Mystery Lake, mainly because the map is fairly easy to learn, plenty of 'safe' buildings, caves, etc to shelter in and few places that wild animals can ambush you.

It's a really subjective question as all us players have their preferences and different experiences with the game itself - your opinion will get to be formed by your own personal experiences. :)

Only problem with trying to stay on just one map is if you intend to use a bow for hunting. Then either starting on Desolation Point and crafting arrowheads before moving to Coastal Highway; or starting in CH and taking a trip to DP when you feel that you have the gear to go there safely will work.

I also like DP as home, the map is not very big, the lighthouse is a nice home, there is a forge and Hibernia Processing has enough resources of metal and wood. The only downside is that you can not fishing, but that is well compensated by the benefits.

I tried it as a home too, but couldn't really get used to it. The Whaling station feels wrong as a house, and the Lighthouse felt a bit like a trap. If you have wolves between it and the road, you can go out hugging the rock down to the ice, but you'll have to face the wolves to get back home.
I ended up living in the cave, with camping trips to the church to avoid going mad, but it didn't feel right.

After 500 days I can handle the bow well and can hit moving animals in the middle distance. I did not find it difficult to live there.

Easy, in DP avoid use the road, use the ice area or the mine for move around. You can climb for Lighthouse without use the 2 bridges, through a "secret" path. :steammocking:

For novice ML has more places for wolves ambush than CH.

Why Milton in the 'death' category? It's listed as a starter map for beginners, which I tend to agree with, tons of loot, easy to navigate, lots of cool spots to explore and the park office with the huge clear windows en route back to ML is one of my favorite spots in the whole game.

Just don't stumble into FM by mistake, lol.

Two easily accessed coal mines really. Its pretty easy to get to the one that transites to Desolation, and its pretty easy to get to the long one in Desolation itself. Provided you don't have a problem getting to the first one, you won't have a problem continuing to the second.

I agree, Milton is pretty easy. You've just got to get used to taking the right angle coming to corners to avoid getting attacked by a wolf.

It can be brutally slow to get anywhere else though. I normally only go there to collect all the ammo and high-end gear that can be found there and then travel back to either Mystery Lake or Coastal Highway. Those two are easily the best to make your main base in.

Just today I managed to kill a bear at Coastal Highway by shooting it once from stealth outside its detect range and after it finished fleeing I entered its detect range and walked it around the ice in circles for a while, before luring it back to my primary base in the Coastal Cottages. The thing died just outside the house which was incredibly convinient.

I have a huge number of hours in the game (almost 200) and I've not actually spent much time in Pleasant Valley. I haven't actually been to Timberwolf Mountain at all...

I don't know if I agree with starter status for Milton. Crossing the bridge to loot the crash site is often a thrilling cat and mouse game with Mr. Bear. I have killed him twice- and been mauled twice. Site lines are really key in Milton, as is moving carefully. The wolves patrol patterns seem a little more fluid, so it's harder to mark most places as safe. The farm can put on quite a show with all the wildlife. It can like be a nature doc out there. I really like the Basin quite a bit. It's my second vacation home. One wolf and the occasional, and fairly easy to kill, moose. There is a lot going on across the whole zone. My impression from reading the forums is that it had changed the whole TLD experience by showering the map with resources.

True... Milton is a very easy area to survive if you know what you are doing.

...but by definition that makes you not a starter. I can't tell you whether it would be easy to survive as a new player, because I haven't been one for a long time.
