Cairns?

Has anyone ever found all 165 cairns?

I am on 61, I've been to all regions but have not been actively looking for cairns. Most of them I have found in caves and up in high areas, on tops of hills and rocky areas.

Thinking about it, I don't think I have ever found one in Mountain Town (Milton). Cairns and Notes Left Behind were added to the game before Rugged Sentinel, which is when Mountain Town (Milton) was added to Survivial Mode. I just don't recall if the total number of findable cairns changed from when cairns were added, and when the RS update was shipped. Not sure if it was 165 beofre (it is 165 now), or if the number was lower.

They are in FM and BR, and some are cleverly tucked into nooks or on small ledges on rocks along shorelines, where there is generally no loot to be found, but often wolves or a bear on patrol. (CH in particular has a decent number tucked in along the shorelines). And I have not yet gotten up the guts to check the back edges of all of the islands that have one edge on weak ice, to see if any are tucked in there. Because weak ice and I do not have a good working relationship, lol! So, the back sides of Misanthrope's and Jackrabbit, and any of the map edges on coastal maps should be checked... carefully.

Whew, 115 and not completed PV or CH? You've still got quite a few ahead of you. I think I've managed to get most if not all the cairns in Pleasant Valley but it was tough! I'm still only at like 45. xD

I will eventually find them all, catalog them and make a spoiler map. Just, not until IRL lets up and I am able to relax back into playing. Too much going on right now that has me constantly distracted from immersive games. I am in no rush. I don't need to be "First!!!" at finding them all. Just something I decided i wanted to do at some point during the last Test branch, and was too tied up in testing things then to start on it. Now, too tied u with IRL complications.

If someone else has found them all, and wants to make a guide or map, I'll be happy to provide what co-ordinates and story text for cairns I have, once Life settiles down.

I am working on an excel document that lists where all the cairns are, the backer number, what they say. But I am finding them myself so it is taking a very long time.

Fifty-nine and counting - doing this in my 500 day achievement at day 293 atm - some of them must be pretty obscure places though - still not much else to do just now.

I have three Pilgrim sandoxes. The latest one has reached 93 which I think is the highest total of the three, but I don't always go looking for cairns. Regions visited: Desolation, Crumbling, Coastal, Pleasant, Timberwolf, Winding, Ravine, Mystery, Forlorn.

I have noticed a bug if you look at the screen and want to scroll down the list of cairns. The list of cairns do not change except when you get to the end (if it does not fill out the line of cairns) where there would be one or more blank spaces. Since most cairns don't have anything to say, it is not a big thing.

My story is about to begin. This thread (though revived from the grave) has given me an itch I will have to scratch. Maybe tie this to the Faithful Cartographer achievement. That would be epic.

That and the 500 days achievement. My goal(s) for when my shoulder is fully healed and I can play again "normally". And all Buffer Memories. And all Notes Left Behind.

I think 500 days would be necessary for my playstyle. All the buffer memories...wow, I've not even found one. I am never around the tech when the aurora's are going. Might as well add those though. :p

I'm going to attempt to go for 500 days soon. There's a little more farmwork to do before I dive back into the game, but when I do I'm going to try (try being keyword) to get the 500 day achivement, skilled survivor and frustarted cartographer. It'll be hard I'm sure, that's why I'll do it on a custom mode with a stalker template, but wolves turned all the way down. xD

Now that I think about it, the one thing that ends my run "most" of the time is a wolf. I'm fairly good at avoiding them but there's no way to avoid when you go around a narrow bend and he's already ontop of you before your player can pull a flare out. that's usually how my run ends, but for some reason I'm too lazy to take precautions, like having my rifle out, or a flare already out. xD

As for cairns, I have a run from last year that I haven't deleted yet (I just checked a couple days ago) and this run has 63 cairns found. I think I got all of Mystery Lake and all of Pleasant Valley. along with the Winding River cave that has a TON of them. xD

I went for 500 and cartographer in one go. Got the 500, but the icon bug on stone church cost me the other - I guess. GL

O.o How exactly does that work? did the icon just not want to pop up? orr..?

Yeah, it never popped. Hinterlands took it off of the requirements, but I still didn't get achievement.

Dang, that's weird.

From what I've heard about Faithful Cartographer, (from the ones who have gotten it) it didn't pop even when they mapped "all" the locations. I think I heard someone say that after an update in the middle of the achivement they went back and mapped all of the locations already mapped again! and then they got it. It sounds really scary going for it honestly. xD I feel like I'll waste a whole bunch of blood, sweat and tears going for this achivement and it turns out I can't get it, just like you. That would be a pile of crap.
