Does The Music Have Meaning?
Subject. I know most sound effects are tied to something - even the crows. But does the music?

Yep. In survival anyway. Pay close attention while you are playing to what music plays as day breaks, as night closes in, as danger approaches, etc. It does give clues.

What IFIYGD said.

Plus...It certainly does for me, it must please my listening ears as TLD is the only game (apart from Skyrim) that I don't turn the music off, because imo it is so darn good in both of them.

I certainly find the music you hear when logging on very pleasant indeed, I always listen to it as it certainly gets me in the mood for a TLD play session. :steamhappy:

Good to know that my paranoia upon hearing scary music isn't misplaced. What are the different musics and what do they signify?

I've learnt it on the piano. Awesome to play and listen to.

Interesting question. We'd also be curious to hear what you think -- would you tie certain experiences in-game to the music you've heard? What kind of impact did that have on you, if any?

I'm not sure I entirely understand the question.

You seem to be asking if we changed our gameplay based on the music we heard, even though the music doesn't actually have real meaning, and asking how that played out. IFIYGD seemed to suggest that the music has "real" meaning, though.

Can you clarify?

I think what Hinterland is asking is: have you noticed a certain track always playing as suset approaches, or as you near a certain location, or if a certain track plays just before you spot a wolf patrol? Are you seeing a pattern? Does it affect what you do, or elicit a certain feeling for you?

I have noticed what I believe are patterns, and the music that plays at certain times, that I can see/hear repeated every time, does affect me and my actions. Can I say for sure there are triggers for certain tracks? No. Because i don't dig into the save game files to see if there are coded-in triggers. But I feel it. You may find different patterns than I do. The music tracks that play may affect your immersion or emotional state, and responsive reaction in-game, differently than they do me.

(Keep in mind I also own the OST, and have since it was released, so I know the track names, and may be assigning them more importance based on knowing the titles of different tracks I hear at certain times.)

TL;DR - I think they are asking if you have noticed any pattern(s), and has/have it/they, even slightly, affected what you do or feel when you hear that track or those tracks. Does the music elicit an emotional response from you? Does it act as an audio cue to yyou like the bear crows or crunchy footsteps of animals does? Or do you not notice any pattern, and just keep going, with no response, personally (emotionally/immersion-wise) or with what you do in-game when you hear it?
Like when I hear that super creepy one in a blizzard at midnight I always turn the sound off and hide behind a rock xD

I've noticed music playing at dusk and sometimes during the night when I like to look at the starry sky and there's no wind.

Other times it plays in the morning, but I usually avoid getting outside unless I have nothing else to do indoors.

In my case, I've learned to love listening a lonely guitar play. There's part of a song in a relaxing CD I have since I was young that I just love. The sound of acoustic guitar in that part and the notes as sparks in your ears. That's why in certain relaxing moments I like listening to it when it plays a melancholic solo.

I've only noticed music cues at certain times of the day or in certain places. Excluding the suspenseful track that plays after an animal attack or close encounter, i've never heard music cues that could play for possible nearby danger? Is it just me or are you guys misinterpreting some of the tracks?

I'm pretty sure music is totally random and Hinterlands also confirmed this. You're just attributing it to the situation you are in.

No, there is definitively a specific song that plays when wolves are stalking you.

I'm under the guise that the music plays a role in the game. I've noticed certain music at midday and at dusk. There's another music when you may in or could be in danger from the local wildlife, as in when you are near wolves or, even worse, when they may catch scent of the 4 billion pounds of moose meat that you're trying to haul back to camp.

Music while in transitional caves is quite creepy and appropriately so. Ever run out of lantern fuel in a cave? Pretty damned creepy in there in the dark not knowing which way is up. I'm not so sure about music tied to weather patterns but there are visual cues that help for that...sometimes.

I was poised once atop a fallen tree and capped a bear. It was a clean shot and it hauled boogity away from me. Once it had cleared a distance, nearly becoming a speck, I came down from my point of safety and was going to kill some time until it bled out. The music that began sent a chill up my spine and the closing roars nearly sent me into a panic. Another shot to the face and down it went, with the music dying with it.

Can the music be random? I think so. It does help to break the monotony of the wind gusts and snow crunching under your feet.

TLDR; Yeah, I think music is situational.

I’ll tell you. I’ve played this world for a LONG time and the only time you’ll see triggered music which is REALLY obvious is when there are wolves after you. And then the most obvious music and music that genuinely scares me is when music starts getting sharp and slow and you can he’s ra bear or moose moaning or panting. Now that’s scary
