Survival save location?
Anyone know where the save files for survival games are stored? Just lost my entire save because the game never told me it was permadeath, and I can't be bothered grinding again to get to where I was every time I get god-moded by a dog.

word of advice, get used to restarting bro. thats what this game is about. survive, get rekt cause you're a noob, learn, repeat. its part of the fun, laughing at the stupid mistakes you make.

as for where the saves files are, not a clue. hopefully someone else knows aha.

I forgot where I read this or the exact terminology, but when you die in a survival game something is written onto your save that makes it unusable/unloadable; hence the permadeath. Also no idea where the save files are.

Your saves are in C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local\Hinterland

P.S. You'd better remove any reference to unauthorized mods, or you topic will be banned.

The game description on the Store page very clearly states the game is permadeath...

..only the story mode Wintemute is not.

Or you can back up saves and it will not be.
Really, it's up to individual players choice.

Lol! When the OP complains that the game never told them it was permadeath, but the game description clearly does...
The cheese we can apply ourselves as players really was not the point I was making. And not something the game or game description tells you, if you actually read it. :)

Why can't we just give him the information he seeks without bullying him for trying to play the game in a way he might enjoy?

Just as you could post the relevant info without the rhetorical question :)

you've got a funny view of bullying my dude, ngl. and idk who this 'we' is but maybe try not to include everyone when you're making false comments that make everyone seem like bad people, when you're not talking to everyone, and they're false?

I bought this game in 2017 lmao, calm your ♥♥♥♥. I haven't played in a long time, do you go and read the store page description for every game you revisit? I don't. Anyway, I like this game and don't get a lot of free time, I don't want to come home after another 12 hour shift just to do the same beginning sequence over again, I just want to see the game.

Lol! Calm yourself, hun. The game has always been advertised as permadeath in Sandbox/Survival Mode in the game description, on the store page. It was in 2016 when I bought it. One of the reasons I bought it, actually. :cozyteddymoo:

If you are already dead, then it's too late. You would have had to back up your save game files before dying, and you'd then be able to restore only to the point where you were at the time of backing up.

The savegame files are located in AppData ([System Disk] --> Users --> [your username] --> AppData ...), in one of the subfolders, In a sub-subfolder named Hinterland, then TheLongDark (I think), etc. It should not be difficult to locate there. use the timestamps on the files to easily find the one you need.

Addendum: The Long Dark has one of the most friendly communities of all games, very helpful and patient, but we really don't appreciate it when people throw around vulgarisms and insults towards the game, the developers, or others. If you'd come and asked "Where are the savegame files located?" or "How can I restore my dead survivor after dying?", you would have avoided all this drama.

Are we cool? Cool.

If you haven't played the game in several years, I would strongly recommend starting on a lower difficulty level (Voyageur or even Pilgrim), because so much has changed and your old habits from ~2017 may be working against you.

@others: Then again, you didn't really have to jump on him like that...

If you aren't blind this thread alone proves the contrary. I'm sorry for anyone who comes here looking for helpful information.
You necro'd a thread that is over two years old to post this? Really? Talk about not helpful.
