Dropping stuff down a rope
Hello. So yesterday I was bringing stuff down the summit and had an idea; how could I drop stuff down a rope? I had about 3 trips up and down the mountain (it was stalker) and figured it would go a lot faster if I could take 80 LBS or more at a time. (with well fed buff) I have an idea.

As you can see in this screenshot, I am very very close to the edge of the cliff and barely standing on anything. If you are in this position, you can drop an item and it falls to the bottom! Sometimes it lands on the snow just beneath your feet, but if you more closer to the ledge or try and re-drop it, it will usually fall. I used this tactic to move 3 rifles, 3 bedrolls, tons of hatchets knives and hacksaws, 40+ LBS of clothes, in one trip up and down the mountain! of course it was much easier taking the route back behind eric's falls, but I imagine it's possible to go the long way.

In that screenshot you can see I am climbing down a rope and you can see all the stuff I dropped to the bottom. a pile of hacksaws, hatchets and knives that were too heavy to take on the rope. I think this tactic could be very useful.

Anyway, just thought I would share. Let me know if you already knew this trick and if not, will it be useful? have a great day! :steamhappy:

I gave up and learned how to skyrim lol. Incidentally, I just got back from a summit run, and got down the tail section route with no sprains! It was a miracle lol.

Wow, no sprains? crazy. I'm day 35 stalker and I plan on mapping all of Timberwolf Mountain and then leaving to PV. I currently have 28 sprains. I've just learnt to deal with them I guess. they're a pain in the rear, but I usually carry 5+ bandages on me now when previously I might take 2 bandages and 2 omb.

Excellent, May I propose anyone who uses this technique refer to it as a "Jiffy Drop".

Ha! "Jiffy Drop!" Excellent!

I have thought about how one should be albe to do this any way. And even hoist good up. More craftable items and tools should be added. Like a bowdrill too for fire making.
Craft items gives a short term goal in the otherwise long dark.

I agree. it would be neat to have a mechanic that lets you tie your backpack to the bottom and pull it up from the top, or something like that. it would be much easier and make much more sense to tie your backpack to the rope and then climb it, and proceed to pull the backpack to the top. Instead of climbing a rope up a mountain with a 50 lbs backpack on, which is already hard without. :)

My mind drifted off once you said you kept more than one rifle. Whatever for? With 2-3 cleaning kits, one lasts forever. The rest make good scrap, and maybe firewood, can't recall. I usually just make a note of where they are and leave them lie.

It would be cool to be able to pull your pack up after you or lower it before you. At either end your choices would be attach pack or climb, and remove rope at the top. A 40 Kilo limit seems reasonable.

Going up to the summit I found one in the cave below and I found two up there. I figured I may as well take them down just because I had the room to fit. Plus, I've personally had multiple cases where a bear or moose will maul me and my rifle gets thrown under the snow where you can't find it! This happened once after I harvested my only other rifle, so now I'm weary to keep a couple just in case I ever lose one somehow. :)

Other than those reasons, I always like to leave "no stone unturned" in a sense. I like absolutely looting every region including all the flora like rose, mushrooms, and collecting all items into one place. Once I am done with TWM I will head to Pleasant Valley and to the same thing. Take all my stuff from TWM to the farmhouse. It's my way of "completing" the game. :)

Maybe a small chance a bear comes along and mauls your pack while you are climbing, just for fun.

Carry more than one rifle is good for pick the wrong in the wrong moment. :steammocking:

I keep multiple rifles because there are times I need the extra 4+kg of weight for food, looting, etc. The rifles are in strategic locations so I don't have to go far to get one. I normally use only one. But since I have accumulated over 150 arrow shafts, the rifle is reserved for bear and the rare one-time-spawning moose.

I like this item dropping idea. I was thinking about creating a simple pulley or a wooden platform to drag or pull items up by rope. But Jiffy Drop will do.
