Speeding up the passage of time?
If i go to sleep when it gets dark, i wake up fully rested well before sunrise. I prefer not go outside while it is dark and i usually don't have anything to do inside. Just waiting until sunrise is not very entertaining, so i'd like to have the option to speed up the passing of game time.

There already is, the option to 'pass time' shows up when clicking on a bedroll or bed, or you can access it by hitting space then camp craft (whatever the fire option on radial is called) and select pass time (looks like playing cards)

I really try not to use it much though because calorie thirs and fatigue drain are all a lot worse then sleeping or using the time to do something constructive (because you got nothing done)

You probably know this but try to use that time to break down clothing, or harvest items you don't need, prepare mushrooms/rosehips. Or break down some furniture (some is possible in the dark) etc. Always try to be efficent, anyway sure you know this, hopefully answered your question.

Try the "pass time" button. Either as a tab when you click a bed or through the camp options on the wheel-of-interfaces.

Thank you both.

No problem, if I absolutely have to pass time in sandbox at night then I usually do it for a couple hours then sleep until fully rested again then repeat if I need to pass more time till morning. This way you use less calories and water overall and start the day fully rested.

Because of resources this is unlikely needed in Pilgrim mode, and probably not often in voyager but its good to get in the habit.

I always try to not go to sleep until my fatigue meter is way down. I mean wayyyyy down. I'll sprint back and forth through my shelter if I need to before getting ready to eat, drink and go to bed. I also try to have newsprint, rose hips, reishi, old man's beard lichen, ragged clothing I want o harvest, etc., in my inventory before I bed down. That way if i wake before it is light enough or warm enough to go outside and get stuff done, I have things I can harvest or prepare for use in the dark. So my time is spent productively. I would rather make 12 tinder plugs while waiting for daylight. Even if don't need them for firestarting, I can use them for marking trails. Or I would rather harvest my ragged extra clothing items for cloth and leather, since I can do that in the dark, so I have materials for mending and crafting ready to go when it is light enough to actually do the crafting.

The 'Pass Time' option is one of the good things that have been added to the game. As others have said using it before sleeping and on waking are a real godsend, providing you have nothing else to do that is.

I also use it at any time during the game when I need to log off in a hurry, so I can pick up right where I left off when I log on again - of course I make sure that I am under some sort of cover or generally safe before I do so, yes Pass Time is excellent to use as a game save.

Although there is no "clock" per se in the game, anymore, if you watch the day/night indicator and watch how your fatigue state relates you can come up with equivalances that can help you awaken, fully rested, closer or after dawn.

I have found (I am in Pilgrim so YMMV) that being solidly Tired tends to mean about 8 hours or less of sleep. Similarly, being Drained (indicator/level still white) tends to be more like 9 hours. What I call Red Drained (indicator has turned red) tends to be more like 10 hours. If you get all the way to the bottom, you're looking at 11 hours and if the entire meter goes red (i..e. you are exhausted and starting to lose Condition) you can sleep 12 hours (the max) and not quite be fully rested.

I add 1 hour to the above when I set how long to sleep so 9 hours if tired, 10 hours if just drained, 11 hours if red drained and 12 hours (max anyway) if exhausted. My very general/vague rule of thumb is that if the moon is at about the 10-11 position on the day/night meter then I have about 8-9 hours of darkness remaining. Adjust accordingly.

That also give me a rough prediction of what the light state is likely to be outside. Once you work out approximate equivalences, you can use Pass Time or harvesting something (can't mend in the dark) or break down some things so when you wake up you don't have to waste too much time. Of course, YMMV.

If you play a Custom game, you can disable "Sleep as a resource". This will allow you to sleep even if you are fully rested.

Yeah, but doesn't that also disable condition recovery during sleep? (Haven't testied it myself...)

Nope! Condition recovers normally. You just sleep as long as you want. You don't wake up early if your rest maxes out before your specified wake up time.

Nice! Good to know that. I was afraid to mess with that setting because I wasn't sure what it would do to condition recovery/hunger/thirst. They all scale normally and work as before, I will assume. Thanks for the info ajb1978. :)
