Most efficient way to reach 150c @ forge?
Hello all,

What is the most efficient way (in preserving wood & coal) to reach the 150c at the forge? I currently plan to add wood (reclaimed) until 80c (all the meanwhile using the fire to cook and stuff), then add coal until it reaches 150. Yay or nay?

Would like to hear you guys who are more experienced.

Cheers

AFAIK, use coal as soon as you can. It gives an hour + alot more heat than wood. (Not sure the exact amount, but it burns alot hotter than wood. so it saves fuel and gives more heat faster)

At the Desolation forge, it is not all that hard to gather 20, 30 or more coal in one go or in a short period of time - there are a couple different places to find them. You only need 7 coal (and a +10 C wood fire) to get to 150 C.

Consider that, at level 5 fire starting, a +10 C fire with sticks would have a duration of about 100 minutes (less 20 minutes you have to wait until you can add coal so 80 minutes, about 1.3 hours). 7 pieces of coal gives +140 C (so you get to 150 C forge temperature) and has an adjusted (level 5 gives +50% to duration) duration of 10.5 hours. Normal is 1 piece = 1 hour. The maximum fire duration is 12 hours. 10.5 + 1.3 = 11.8 hours. If you try to add a coal to a fire with more than 10.5 hours fire duration, the game won't let you because that would exceed 12 hours max duration. You'd have to wait.
Yeah, coal is really easy to get as you just grab as much as you can when walking through a mine then dump what you dont want at the enterenace of each mine. So your plan is good but only need to use wood to 10 degrees, maybe 30 or 50 degrees if really want to conserve coal and going for a long smithing session.

One way is light a fire with stick, add 2 sticks for 3C (or a book is 3C by itself). Add 9 RecWood to raise it to 30C and around 4.5-5 hours burn time depending on Fire skill. Then add 6 coal for 150C Now if your Fire skill would waste burn time because 5 pieces of Coal caps your 12h burn time, just add 5 and make some water (you'll need it...forging is thirsty work), then add the 6 th piece for 150C.

After that just add whatever you have a lot of for more time if needed.

So thoughtful and calculated. Love this response. Thank you!
