Outdoors but Indoors
Please suggest places to spend time and sleep that are sheltered but count as Outdoors for Cabin Fever purposes. Im in Pleasant Valley but would like to hear about all locations for future reference too.

[bitter sarcasm] I made a Wolfcoat. With skill and hard work I hunted down four of my deadliest enemies and turned them into a luxurious fur coat that will greatly enhance my personal comfort as well as my survival chances. It was consistenly Blizzardous outside so I got carried away and spent too much time being toasty warm at my Crafting Table taking positive and productive action to improve my situation. Obviously my character is extremely anxious and depressed about these things. [/bitter]

In the back of a 2-layer Cave (not a mine), or a car if you're warm enough, or just build a 10hr fire in a fishing hut. The trick is to spend as much time outside as possible. All maps except CH have 2-layer caves.

Make a snow shelter outside of Signal Hill trailer and sleep there in good weather nights, when blizzard hit jump for inside, Indoor/outdoor at hand, and can fish in the near Pensive Pond. I prefer do the inverse, live in Pensive Pond and go work in Signal Hill.

Other good place in PV is the abandoned Bunker near TWM rope, just hunt a Deer weekly in the near Hunter Blind area.

In DP is Riken, can sleep in pilot cabin in good nights - with good cloths, and if need "retreat" for inside. Lighthouse offer the same indoor/outdoor, but get in/ou is a bit inconvenient.

In CH is Fishing Village - can sleep in nearest fishing hut - but keep wood/coal stored there for emergency. There is possible cook under the pier in from of tight cabin, the place have good wind protection.

Don't know in Interloper, but in Stalker snow shelter is the best thing of the game - allow you survive without rely only in that claustrophobic house interiors without windows. :steamsad:

So I could go to the Cave between PV and Winding River? But Mines like the one leading to Coastal Highway count as Indoors?

Or I might get over to the Abandoned Prepper Bunker if thats Outdoors

thanks

These places are all indoors. You need a cave without a transition screen for one option of a outdoors area.

There is a cave between singal hill and the transition cave to winding river, that counts as outdoors. This cave is near a hunter's blind, that's 2 layer.

So with the proper clothing and a bedroll, you may not need to start a fire. This cave is fantastic for fighting CF. There's also deer/wolf/bear that spawns near this cave. Also tons of wood nearby, so you could make this place your "fighting CF cave" if you wanted to stay in PV.

In terms of caves that count as outdoor vs indoor. If a cave has a loading screen required to enter, then it counts as indoors. A cave that doesn't have a loading screen, but has 2 layers, as in it's deep enough that you can stay warm at the back end of the cave, then it's a cave that can fight CF, aka counts as outdooors.

Wow thanks for all the responses. So its the loading screen that tells you whether something is out or in? Do Forestry Lookouts count as Outdoors then? And what about the glazed porch of PV Farmhouse itself?

Bears, I havent seen the Farmhouse Bear at all since Ive been here. The one from the cave under Signal Hill is there though, I had to run from him when I visited the Radio Hut

If you have coal I would suggest the outdoor shed/wooden structure beside the grain silo at the farmstead. If you have a bedroll and enough coal, make a long fire and sleep in one hour increments. You should be sheltered from the wind.

TWM - outdoor cave, the big one with three exits that often contains a bedroll. It's just up from one of the engines and cargo containers.

TWM - Summit, tail section. Makes for a fabulous shelter and base.

The office attached to the Maintenance Area in Broken Railroad is a superb spot to get rid of any risk of the fever.

And die with hypothermia if don't sleep 4+3+2 turns. :)

BTW - Too complicate these outdoor solutions for PV Farmestead, just make a snow shelter near the river, facing a rock (for allow make a fire in front if need) = 15+3º warm bonus, better than 2 layers caves.

Hey Capt Dan, I forgot to check last time I was there. Even though the cave is pretty "open", does it completely block wind just by going in there?

What Lt. Heinz Becker said is a perfect place to shelter and still be close to the farmhouse in an emergency.

There's a bed that you can build a fire next to with an endless supply of pallets all around. No need to not build a 9 hour fire and sleep the night away.
Try some of those outbuilding sheds or barns... they typically have an enclosure that would allow you to shelter from the wind / build a fire to stay warm. The temps won't be much different from outside exposed but with a long fire, you can stay outdoors for a while, even sleep if you have too. Just be sure to watch your temp, and keep your fire going.

No snow shelter comes close to the awesomeness of caves. I *think* all caves are not created equal, but on Interloper caves are windproof, roomy, and provide anywhere from +22C to +28C temp bonus.
