Survey - Hunting aurora Wolves and Bears
What do you do during an aurora? I'm particularly interested in Stalker / Interloper feedback.

I'm curious how often anyone takes down an aurora wolf or bear. Or if the majority of players just hide out in a safe place, read books, craft, etc...

Also curious if you can still potentially 1 shot kill them, or if they are tougher than normal.

Please add any additional information you might know about the aurora effects on wildlife such as:

Edit: Here's the running list so far...

> Wolves detection range is increased - Would like to confirm if true.
> Wolves have more health - Might be tough to confirm if this is true.
> Wolves and Bears are tougher than normal - Seems to be TRUE.
> Distress pistol flare does not scare them - Would like to confirm if true.
> Wolves are not afraid of fire - I believe this is confirmed True.
> Lighted areas or Flashlight will keep them at bay - Mixed opinions but mostly TRUE.
> Do decoys work - Seems to be TRUE.

AFAIC, Aurora nights are only for observing the beautiful skies (from a safe place) and collecting buffer memories.

Aurora wolves and bears are frighteningly aggressive. Though I've killed Aurora wolves before, failing to do so has fatal consequences if you miss. I lost a 700+ day Stalker sandbox because two Aurora wolves in the Muskeg didn't give a damn about being hit by arrows. The first one dropped me from 110% condition to ~20, and the second one finished me off.

I don't make a point of being out during an aurora unless I'm already in the middle of something somewhere safe. And I get a little edgy toward dusk if I happen to be passing through the dam - 'cause you never know.

The last encounter I had with an aurora bear got me killed. I passed just a little too close to it - close enough that a normal bear would have turned around and casually made its way over, but under the effect of the aurora it went from zero to psycho. I survived the attack, but there was no getting away. Again, under normal conditions, I could have hobbled out of range, but this thing was on me again before I could take more than a few steps.

I think predators might have increased sensory ranges.

I only vaguely remember killing one aurora wolf, and it was the usual decoy and headshot routine. I think it would be interesting if clothing made from aurora pelts had slightly improved/ different attributes.

They don't. Pelts harvested from aurora animals are the same as any other pelt.

That's the reason for this thread. :steamhappy:

I was going to create a wishlist idea for using aurora wolf and bear pelts.

Can you imagine? You put on your hound of the baskervilles coat during an aurora, and step outside. You black out, and the next thing you know you're waking up next to a snoring bear. Your belly's full, and half a dozen bloody rabbit and deer carcasses are strewn about the place.

ROFL. You step outside of the camp office in ML and wake up on the summit of TWM.

Now this has me thinking. Since they are adding Timber wolves, maybe there's going to be a special Timber wolf hide? Probably wishful thinking.

Go sleep in a safety place, and if the place have radio turn this on. :steammocking:

No, Aurora wolves are afraid of fire.

Confirm this in Muskeg, I am harvesting a deer - killed by wolf and Aurora come, so I need make a "street without joy"... ops of campfires for return to Marsh Ridge cave.

What happens is that Aurora wolf just run few dozen of meters from fire and come back, so I make a barrier of campfires between the wolf and my escape route.

Been mauled by a bear in MT knocking my health down to 95%. Usually I will peek outside for the view but usually I stay inside to be safe.

You mean knocked your health down to 5% rather than the usual 10% ?

Edit: Or maybe you were bleeding so it was just down to 5% by the time you got bandaged up?

Keep in mind with flashlights that it's the high beam setting on the flashlight to keep them from attacking. I failed to remember that recently and got turned into aurora wolf chow by three consecutive attacks. I should say, I remembered as the last wolf was leaping for my throat. :steamsad:
