Good guide hee that explains decay rates on almost everything, though the clothing and a few other things may be outdated afterthis most recent update,

Apparently still safe to eat though, and our character has most likely done worse by eating dog food...
But yeah, outdoors (and indoors even) is often below freezing such that food would be already frozen / freeze if you leave it there. You'd think you might need to thaw it out by carrying it around a bit or take longer while cooking it.
Freezers also tend to operate around 0 degrees F (-17 C). Not uncommon outdoor game temperatures, but the fluctuation probably effects the preservation. Maybe there would be some nutrient loss too perhaps.
Same goes for all the bottled water I prep and store, shouldn't it be unfrozen before I can drink it?
Though as the temperature fluctuates, I'd imagine it not as ideal as our home freezers. Maybe bury it in snow and ice :)
