Losing your direction
It's easy to lose track, get turned around, sometimes it all looks the same - white snow, trees, rocks. But have you ever been certain that you're going in one direction, and certain that you didn't deviate, and suddenly find that you're heading a totally different way (or have gone in a full circle) ?

It's not often but has heppened a few times and I wonder if it's the game glitch or if it's always just me having a bad sense of direction. Have you experienced this?

Just You, and me and probably everyone that has spent a lot of time in game. All it takes is just a little mouse twitch, or that small detour around a rock or tree and you are truly lost. At least I am.....

Definitely not a glitch in the software. Might be called a glitch in your perception, perhaps. :)

And yes, I have gotten lost too.

Me too. I've gotten lost looking for my cache of meat which was only maybe 50 feet away in a blizzard. I kept on going, however, only to find I went in a complete circle..and there it was not 2 hrs of travel in game.

I never get lost in clear weather (not bragging BTW :P) But in blizzards it's a tottaly diffrient situiation. In blizzards all you can see is wind, 5 feet in front of you then white, snowflakes, and if a building is up ahead you might see a glimpse of the building but not for long. thus caused me to miss a preppers cache once .-.

I used to get in trouble on the ice during fog or blizzards. I only recently learned that the marks on the ice always remain in the same place across all playthroughs. Now I use certain marks to lead me to where I want to go. For instance:

There's a series of X marks that lead from the Fishing Camp fishing hut - to the next fishing hut.

Once I reach that fishing hut, there's a kind of a brush stroke that leads directly to Jackrabbit Island.

It's pretty helpful.

Oddly enough in games if there's an actual mini-map or map function at all i get turned around and end up going the wrong way consistently. In games like TLD where there isn't a map i do pretty well. Most of the time it relies on landmarks and making notes on how certain areas look. Hard to see durring the fog and espeially durring a blizzard. Take the time to look around when it's not so gloomy outside, there are lots of clues in the surrounding terrain to tell you where you might be. But yes even still i tend to occassionally get lost.

It seems that I am most likely to get turned around when I start gathering sticks. You bend over a few times and the next thing you know you're magically teleported somewhere. How did that happen? LOL

I just wish there was a character shadow from the sun

I am playing this game a lot about 1,5 years. I know all the mecanics, maps by heart, bags, cheats and flaws. And sometimes I can be lost - not completely, because as soon as I find something known I will find my direction - but it happens in a blizzard or anything obscuring your vision. So you are not alone. Welcome to community!

Well if it happens, it only adds to realism, since people being lost in the woods etc, tend to walk in circles :P

It happens to me sometimes when harvesting an animal - the camera gives a little 'shimmy' movement so you are facing the animal's belly - this disorientates me a lot - I check a landmark now so I don't get lost. :steamhappy:

Thank you! Good to know that we all get lost sometimes. :)

It happens to me sometimes, and that's pretty cool in of itself that even with community made maps, many playthroughs and the like it's still possible to get hopelessly lost at times... it'll get ya :)

When I first started I always got lost when traveling between Trappers and the Camp Office.
