Yeah, you can wear two parkas for the weight of one Wolfskin Coat and they each are better than the Coat anyway...

The new cloth balancing is utterly broken and needs to be reworked. A Wolfskin Coat needs to be better than two parkas put together, not worse than one of them while being twice as heavy. What an idiotic change.

Edit: It seems to be the same for all of the self crafted stuff. The deerskin pants are useless compared to cargo pants as well.

Hold your horses.

Now I'm no expert, but if I were to face the Canadian Wilderness singlehandedly, I'd much rather be wearing a $500 heavy-duty expedition parka than a coat made of wolf skins that I'd sewn together myself.

If wolfskin coats were better than expedition parkas, surely the guys trekking the North Pole would be wrapped in furs. I don't see how it's "idiotic" at all.

I don't know but the natives of the polar region seem to know better.

Yeah but they've worn these outfits for centuries. Their ancestors didn't have access to gore-tex and the kind of synthetic materials used to make a high-tech expedition coat.
So realistically, outfitting yourself at Cool Antarctica is preferable to making clothing out of animal skin. That leaves us with the question of "Why even have clothing crafting in the game?" I'm not suggesting its removal; quite the opposite. One solution is to limit the availability of "good" factory-made clothing.
You nailed it as it worked for centuries without access to synthetics. That's survival instinct and we want it in-game. I don't want and need to study weather-proof-semisolid-superfluffy-synthetics because we already know what worked for centuries against the elements in forbidding clime.
Idiotic? What a condescending word...

I'm pretty sure you need to be damn lucky to have 2 parkas on Interloper. If you want more challenge, then change your mode man.

Or you know what? Even better, don't even wear it!
The game never forced you to use one specific cloth.

The clothing is designed to provide hard choices. Do a little experiment. Go fight several wolves wearing top of the line found clothing and then fight several wearing the crafted clothes. I say several cause sometimes you can get out of a fight with little or no clothing damage. Anyway, over time you'd find that the not as warm crafted clothes take less damage than the parkas and other found clothing. Plus, the wolf coat has the possibility to scare a wolf away.

Not sure how so many people missed the intent of the clothing overhaul. Perhaps they didn't read the notes? The clothing system is designed to give the player choices. Once again do you want warmth? Speed? Protection? Waterproofnes? Wind protection? Or some combination of? All are possible with the correct mixing and matching. That is the purpose of the clothing system. Is it easy to get the loadout you're after? No. Does it take time? Yes. It can also be frustrating as hell.

Sure, not everyone will like it, and some will see it as a PITA bothersome experience. I think the problem for many is every new update changes things so much that our old playstyle and strategies don't work like they used too. We have grown too comfortable and mastered what we have. We are forced out of our comfort zone and need to change. And sometimes that change is uncomfortable.
Some syntetic material are surely much better than furs. I am not from Antarctica but from very cold regions of Siberia. The climat I live in is very similar to Canadian with up to -50C in January. All traditional clothes we make from furs. And I was once very much surprised when I have found syntetic parka that was lighter in weight and warmer than full fur Mongolian sheepskin coat. So I give my vote to professional expedition parka. Furs are just much more cheaper in price, more available and surely very traditional.

It just felt very rewarding to hunt down the wolves, dry their skin and guts and spend long hours at the workbench to finally get a superior coat. Now, you just walk to the summit and grab the best of the best. I know, its more realistic and i accept the developers choice. But the wolfskin coat was always the mid- to longterm goal for me in the game. When i have the best clothing on day 5 already i dont really know for what i should go.

Wait, Parkas spawn on Interloper since the update? Does that mean Cargo Pants and Insulated Boots are around now too?

I'm a little distressed by the nerf to crafted clothing as well. Upwards of 100 days on Interloper the windchill is just brutal, and to slash the windchill bonus on those types of clothing seems seriously sadistic.
I think the bigger issue is the curing time. Like there is no way that anything nature makes for winter survival is better than man made stuff. it just isnt. So i dont mind the crafted stuff being crapper, my issue is it takes to long to make for little or no gain.

yeah, I lived in the Canadian artic circle with inuit people, and for the most part they wore store bought synthetic winter clothing. They also mostly prefered traveling snowmobiles to dog sled.

I also do agree with Abysswalker though. In sandbox, you make your own goals, and a set of handmade clothes was a sort of obvious "built in" goal, but if the synthetic clothing is better, it sort of takes that goal away... except you can just play on interloper where you don't have access to the best clothes, and then craftin g clothes becomes a good idea again (or at least might be, depending on the situation).
