Help with rock throwing?
I can't. I just can't. I've already tried finding answers but got nothing. How the hell do I hit rabbits with thrown rocks? The rabbits are always too far away and I can't hit them, no matter how hard I try. Not to mention it's nearly impossible to aim the rocks in the first place, I'm just guessing where it'll land.

Use your thumb on the other hand as a guide. But once you hit them you have to run and pick them up. Only once have I managed, I'm either too late or throw another stone instead.

crouch down, sneak up close and try to manover youself so the rabbit is walking towards you. when it gets close enough to fall inbetween your outstretched index finger and tip of your thumb(roughly middle), throw it, then spring up and catch it quick whilst its stunned, it takes practice

Aim with thumb over rabbit. Takes some practise - just persevere.

Get a bunch of rocks and find a random target, like a stick on the ground. Experiment with throwing rocks at the stick. Try to get a feel for the parabolic arc, compared to distance, compared to where your aiming hand is. Be patient with yourself, and allow time to learn the mechanics.

practice makes perfect, but a snare is a much easier way to catch the little guys

Complete agreeance. Just snare 'em. I find chuckin' rocks to be a waste of time and effort.

Actually I find it almost too easy to stun and kill rabbits with stones, to the point of being overly unrealistic.

One factor you should consider is the terrain, stay away from hilly places and places with lots of high grass as it's much harder to spot them and get into position. I find Jackrabbit island to be one of the worst places ironically, though good for a challenge.

The main key is you don't have to crouch at all, just keep a medium distance, determine what direction it's hopping, then strafe around so you're behind them, once you're at a reasonably close distance, hold your mouse button to aim and get them really close pretty much centered between thumb and finger and make your throw. When you're aiming you'll move more slowly so you can be more sure not to move too close to them, which will startle them, but actually you can get much closer than you'd think as long as you stay behind them.

It can even be helpful to aim at the ground just behind the rabbit, because the stone will still stun them as it bounces, and it requires a bit less accuracy.

Obviously once you do hit them, as someone mentioned above, you need to be ready to run up and grab them, but if you use this method you'll be quite close and it's no challenge at all.

I disagree that snares are much easier. Sure, you don't need any technique to catch them in snares, but the technique I describe above is quite reliable and easy once you get the hang of it, and you can get your meal and crafting materials on demand without the necessity to craft the snares or find them which isn't particularly easy. Gut has better uses in the early game, such as fishing line, bow string, thread for your mittens etc..

It's all in the thumb.

The rabbits in TLD all seem to have Myxomatosis. Walk up from behind and you could almost pick them up without stoning them first if the game would let you. I find the easiest way though is to move around to where they're coming right towards you, crouch, and aim with the thumb. Don't forget to un-crouch immediately to go pick them up so you get there fast enough.

If you let one go once in a while, you get good karma and may have better luck hitting them. Just kidding, that's not true (as far as I know), but I do feel guilty about killing them because my dog sits in my lap when I play and she hates the sound the rabbits make when they die. She looks accusingly at me every time.

When the stone throwing was first released, this actually was the case. I would just run the rabbits down on foot and grab them up off the ground, without bothering with the stones. Sadly, that turned out to be a bug, and was removed in the next patch. :(
