Lake Gunshots made a mistake

So I made the mistake by taking the ammo when leaving the supplies with the Forest Talker. Iwas left an angry note and only a broken arrow and a single bullet to show for it. What did I miss out on?

I didn't take the ammo on my first play through. On the second I took it to see what happened - man did it make me feel bad!

It was only then that I realised that I was taking the ammo from the bag. For some reason I thought it meant that he was offering me the ammo and I was saying "thanks, but it's ok"

Yeah, the consequences and context of the choice is not made clear during the first play through. A few rounds of ammo isn't worth it.

I didn't even use the rifle once in Wintermute, herding deer to a wolf for the hunting/meat gathering and the bear got the distress pistol to the face 6 times to drop him.

You didn't miss anything important. You don't even need to wear the deerskin pants, the temperature in story mode is a cake walk.
