How long does it take moose to bleed out?
A moose randomly spawned outside my garage base in Coastal Highway. I've shot it twice: once in the chest and another in the head. Apparently it's extremely difficult to hunt them, so does that mean it takes forever for them to bleed out, or do I need to outright kill them with a hunting rifle?

Hopefully this discussion can be used to update the Wiki page, or at least help those currently on a moose hunt.

Im not sure.. i killed 1 with 2 arrows and he died on the spot , he did run abit inbetween my shots but there was to blood trail behind him ..
I think its pretty hard to make em bleed , since you use his hide to make a cloak thats ''Heavy, but offers significant protection from unfriendly wildlife..''
If you dont see any blood trail where you shot him , check nearby areas ..

Yeah, I think you may be right. I'll switch to the survival bow and finish the moose off.

I had a hard time making one bleed with bow. Kept reloading because I was experimenting, then killed it with 1 shot Pilgrim L1 archery, go figure. And it was an hindparts shot.

it all depend on the weapon lvl ur using ,i mean skill not condition, a lvl 5 archery need 2 arrow or 1 crit if u aim for the chest (i play stalker btw) idk for the rifle i never use it for a interloper gameplay in stalker mode

Just woke up and killed the moose now. I think it would have taken too long for it to bleed out so I used the hunting rifle instead. It took three shots to skill - one sure shot to the chest, one possible shot in the hind or chest, and another one in the head.

One of the devs have said on twitter that moose don't bleed out. Apparently it makes hunting them too easy.

Unless the animal model was changed, each shot tends to have a critical hit or autokill % otherwise it is bleed out. Presumably bleed out would likely be no longer than maybe for a bear which may be 4 to 8 hours (depending on where it was hit). Multiple shots do not affect bleed out only the most severe (i.e. shortest) bleed out counts. However, each shot has a chance to kill as well. Also multiple shots do not stack as far as chance for autokill.

Game experience will help clarify bleed out times.

ETA: Maybe they did change the animal model in that case.

According to the Wiki moose do not bleed out. This is unlike all the other animals.

I've shot 2 moose so far, both took 3 rifle shots to the head before it went down. I was still level 3 at the time. I thought maybe the head wasn't the most effective spot to shoot it at. Still on the hunt for more to test out bow shots though

Ah that would match up with my experience.

In Milton - in the pond near the trailer, I shoot (rifle) the Moose one time, but hit their horns. :steammocking:
He make their charge but I are safety in a ledge, when he return to the area I shoot in the side of head, he drop instantly.

29KG of meat's. Will take some days to collect all this - I harvest and drop in the location.

A wolf pesky this area and I am not think in waste a bullet with then - Including I suspect he steal some steaks, I see then going for near the Moose and back some times, will check when go back to the area. :steammocking:

I decided hunt the Moose (usually I don't hunt Bear = too much work harvest) just because I have nothing more to do in Milton, I am there at more than 30 days, nor better place to go.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Milton. It's basically a smaller and much easier version of pleasant valley with more wolves packed into it. Coastal Highway in my favourite location, followed by Desolation Point and Mystery Lake.
If you need something to do, head to Desolation Point and craft yourself improvised tools and arrows. Afterwards, you can either head to the top of Timberwolf Mountain, or just survive in Coastal Highway for as long as possible. This is what I plan to do every time I launch a game with no specific challenge in mind.

Actually I limit my (Stalker) games to 1/2 regions - when I reach the point that only matches became limitation (case don't find mag glass) I start another.

This above random spawn in ML - so I run away from that "De JaVù" place and in day 2 are in FM :steamhappy:, then go to BR make a "wolf'jacket", "clean" the place and return to "conquest" FM.

As Rugged Sentinel put a access to Milton just at left of my base in FM (caves in Marsh Ridge), I climb for Milton, but too much loot, I have impression to be playing in Wintermute...

For for longest run my preferred path is TMW-PV-ML-FM-BR-FM-(include Milton there)-ML-CH ending in DP, where's easy survive indefinitely with mag glass.

I don't care in carry loot between regions, only essential tools and always with 5 cloths+15 sticks for make a emergency snow shelter, the best thing for make in the game.
