How precise are scent markers?
Carrying one Rabbit carcass gives one scent marker and two carci gives two scent markers, clear enough. Then you can carry, say, one Rabbit carcass and one Gut and still only have one scent marker, but do you smell Rabbittier than if you just had the one carcass?

Also do cooked Fishes make you at all Fishy to Wolfs? It seems you can carry a lot of cooked Fishes w/ out getting a scent marker. But I went Fishing, cooked my Fishes on the stove in the hut then got followed by a Wolf on the way home and it felt like it latched on from a long way away even though I didnt have a marker.

Wolves do not _only_ detect you and decide to stalk you or chase you based on scent, you know? They also detect you by sight, which is why breaking line of sight can make them turn away, and they detect you by sound, which is why you will sometimes see them look your way from a far distance if you are moving and making noise.

Smell, sound, sight. A combination of all 3. Or any one alone, or any combination of more than one. You walk out of a fishing hut and one sees you... it wants to check you out. They hear you, they want to know what made that noise. Was it prey making that noise? All the stink-o-meter shows is the distance from which they will smell you. And keep in mind, no bars does not mean your unwashed body and clothing has stopped stinking. Canines have very good noses, they can smell things humans do not, which is why IRL we use them to track scent trails that we cannot detect.

You likely walked out and the wolf saw you, more than smelled you. Or a combination of sight and smell. And they may have heard your footsteps on the ice.

It is more than one single thing.

Yeah ofc but this was a walk Im sure we've all done a bunch of times, ML fishing hut back to camp office, past one of the three Wolfs thatre always roaming the lake. Im sure they can see us like we can see them from right across the lake but they dont latch on and follow unless you get within a certain distance. You get a feeling for how far that distance is and it seemed like this one latched onto me from what I thought was plenty far enough away, and the difference this time was I had a lot of Fishes on me.

What Im asking is this, does one piece of Meat give you more than baseline scent even though you dont get a scent marker? And does one scent marker's worth of meat plus one extra piece give you more scent that just the one marker's worth, even though you dont have the second marker?

And does cooked Fish scent at all? Because Ive never got a scent marker from it but idk if thats because it doesnt add scent or because I havent carried enough to show the first marker.

If you have any meat, even 1 piece, or fresh gut with no Scent wiggle, you still have a little scent to you. You were probably pushing the envelope on almost having 1 Scent wiggle.

If you are carrying nothing stinky, scent-wise you might as well not exist to a wolf. In crouch you can get obscenely close to a wolf, even on Interloper. Unfortunately, you can get so close that when it does see you in Crouch, you're in its auto-aggro and it will attack immediately.

I posted this in a Scent 3 thread, but for real amusement carry Scent 3 and see how far off and how QUICKLY a wolf starts coming toward you. Their tracking trot rivals their running speed they do to close the distance to their "growl/approach zone".

Or because they do that in the real world as well? Predators... if it is edible, they will eat it. Beats starving when there are dead things all around you. Even if one of them happens to be your cousin. Only humans feel objections to that. Well. most humans.
