use stereo headphones, it'll help you locate the wolf from sound, so you can keep from running into him.
I believe there is also a mechanic in which animals will despawn from an area and respawn elsewere but I don't have a firm understanging of that piece. I suspect blizzards may be one thing that triggers this but I could be mistaken.
Like Bole said, give them a piece of meat or fish and if you are armed, get yourself a pelt. If not, give them the food and walk the opposite way they go.
Once you figure out the wolves, you'll wonder why you ever complained. I've got 45 wolf kills on my current 167 day Interloper run. I did lots of bow practice on Voyager until I could bait and shoot wolves 100% of the time, and with total conficence, then I went to interloper and I've been rolling easy.
The beauty of Voyager is wolves don't do a whole lot of damage, so if you miss and get in a fight, you'll be fine.
I really think the wolf aspect has been tweaked badly since the official release. The genre is no longer "survival", but merely "wolf survival" now. The shift towards wolf protection activities disctracts a lot from fighting the elements that I love more. Basically, the whole gameplay looks like "do I get a wolf spawn when travellng between shelters".
For me the game has been ruined quite a lot since the pre-wintermute beta. I tried easier levels, but the weather part becomes too easy and supplies too abundant.
Provided that my Wintermute simply crashed after about 5-6 hours of gameplay and the save was deleted, I don't think I can BEAR this state of affairs anymore. Yes, bear. Bears are better than these damned dirty cursed idiotic cretinist cheap two-bit wolves.
I think the wolf aspect is too prominent, and is crazy to have them staking out a house for days at a time!
And no, I won't list them. You can go search for yourself. But I'll give you ahint... the oft requested ability to pick up and use stones... might just be one of those things.
