How to get to Winding river and Carter Dam from Pleasant Valley?

I've been moving along the rockline north/south of Cascading falls for at least two days now, even used some charcoal. Still no sign of that supposed cave that leads to winding river. Any help please? At least a location on the cartographed map would help..

It's not at ground level. Look for a tree broken in half, and then look up a ways. It's on a ledge about 30' off the ground.

I did notice a ledge with a corpse on it, I think nearby, but there was no obvious way of getting to that corpse. Does that mean I need to carry mountain rope to get there? Is there even a way to have a rope there? FYI, I'm doing the nomad challenge, and the only two ropes I've found are on the way to timberwolf mountain, and in the mountaineer hut. Also, is that entrance not supposed to show up on the map, when charcoal'd?

The ledge with the corpse is where you need to go. You will have to shimmy your way up the rocks. It's not an obvious path up, and some parts are too steep to walk straight up. You'll have to slide side to side as you shuffle ever upwards, to get there. But you can get there!

Another thing I suggest to people having trouble finding the cave, and the way up/down to it, is to just start a throwaway game in Mystery Lake on Pilgrim. Don't bother looting, just head straight to Carter. You should find a lantern in the dam, but even if you don't there's a torch that always spawns on the floor in one of the hallways. Exit the rear of the dam, follow the river, then through the cave. When you pop out on the ledge in Pleasant Valley, you can poke around for a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the exact spot and path leading up to it. Then just delete that game and return to your primary.

There is a hunters blind between signal hill and the cave. As you come down the hill from the hunters blind, you should be able to see the cave, along with the path leading to it. The correct path shouldn't require any shuffling to traverse and is marked by a broken tree.

I had to find a youtube video to find it, it's in a strange location you wouldn't expect. A cave kind of on a cliff side. I never found it by walking along the edge of the map, even though I must have walked past it a dozen times.

If you draw a mental straight line from the farmhouse passing through the radio tower, you will reach the cave.

There are several broken and uprooted trees near the hill that lead up to the cave.

Yeah when you know what to look for it's easy, but new players sometimes have difficulty navigating that spot. Similar to the one cave on Timberwolf Mountain in the last area before the summit where it's easy to exit, but can take some maneuvering to get back in.

You can also look up whiteberry maps to get a general idea of the lay out of all game maps.
