Sun rises in the East and sets in the West, right?
Moved from Coastal Highway to Mystery Lake and I have noticed that the sun seems to often rise in the West and set in the East. I first noticed that when walking to Camp Office in the morning along the tracks and there was the sun shining in my face rising from where Forlorn Muskeg should be. I have also seen the sun setting beyond the Carter hydro dam.

Other times I get the impression it is rising from the SE (which is more plausible) i.e. looking out from the Dam entry door across the baseyard and into the mountains.

No biggie, but it is kind of confusing. At least I know my way around Mystery Lake so having the sun rise where it wants to and set where it wants to is not a problem so long as it gets into the sky. :steamhappy:

Are you judging by community maps, something official?

Yes. I am aware that the region maps when fitted to the world map get rotated to fit. I know that in Pleasant Valley, what was East is now West.

In Mystery Lake, the sun didn't rise where it used to rise for a long time and where it seems to rise currently seems quite off from what the world map would say should be East vs West.

In fact, Mystery Lake seems the most off in this regard. Not sure when it happened but something seems quite off. Maybe my sandbox is disarrayed.

So would you suggest they rotate the skybox or change the world map?
Mind the artists probably made design choices around sun rise/set.

I tried using the sun for orientation for a while, and gave up. The visuals were overall too confusing for me, so I always rely on landmarks instead of sun. Anoying bit of lack-of-realism.

It's a deep shame, for a quality game.

I opened a similar thread months ago. But it's not really a big deal. It may brake the immerion a bit but soon you forget about it.

As someone suggested in that thread for orientation landmarks and terrain are much better than the sky.

I have used the sun or moon for short stints of navigation. I agree this should be corrected.

Yeah I remember the Devs talking about it when someone brought it up a few months ago, they said they'll get it fixed at some point.

Maybe it will happen in the December update. Hinterland is going to add or change a bunch of things - this update is supposed to be a big one. A bit of consistency in the world map would be nice but I'd rather they have as few bugs in the update as possible.

Now just get the journal so it can be set to show the last day in the journal rather than the first day, please!! :)

When you say you use the sun for navigtion, does that mean using community maps, or the ingame map, or the world map?

As using the community maps, isnt how i would assume the devs intended their game to be played? And even if thats the case it would only be a matter of establishing north per region.

if its the ingame map, and thats off, the same thing applies.

The world map isnt really fit for navigating inside regions anyway.
