Bearskin Bedroll or Bearskin Coat?
Hey all, just got my second bear skin cured, and I was wondering if I should make the coat, or if I should make the bedroll?

I'm travelling a lot now that I've gotten... Ah... settled into the long dark (rich with food and water) so I've got nothing better to do. ALSO planning on going back to Forlorn Muskeg for the hunt.

So should I get the coat for surviving the travels, or the bedroll for when the $#!% hits the fan?

Bedroll all the way. I belive it's above 9F when sleeping in it, it's lighter than the coat, (no idea how that works? xD) you can sleep in it, and it also has a chance to scare away wolves.

Now, let's go over the pros and cons of each.

Bedroll pros: Light, warm, and might scare away a wolf. Cons: Heavier than the regular bedroll, but I guess still exceptable. it's hard to repair, and I think it's actaully a little bit harder to craft.

Coat pros: Lots of waterproofing, warmth, and armour. might scare away a wolf. Cons: Very heavy, hard to repair, ugly, (IMO the look of it is a huge factor. xD) and it takes away a considerable amount of your sprint meter.

Looking over both of them, I'd say the bedroll is better just because it's lighter than the coat and it's also the same amount of warmth (or maybe warmer? please note I haven't used any of these items in a long time.) when slept in. also because it's a portable bed and AFAIK, your clothes can't get wet when sleeping.

Now, alot of this is based off of my memory. I haven't had either of these items for a long time and I might be adding a little misinformation. Also, I'm not 100% sure that the bedroll scares away wolves, just a guesstamate.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, was leaning towards bedroll, especially in muskeg, where you need a fire to sleep with a normal 'roll. Thanks again!

The bedroll is actually around 20F of warmth, like carrying your own snow shelter! I REALLY don't get why the bedroll is lighter than the coat when it's made of more materials! The bearskin bedroll is also pretty handy at keeping wolves at bay, so you can sleep almost anywhere outside (just make sure wolves aren't literally 10 feet away from you, or that you're not in bear country)!

Something mysterious happened to my bedroll and it went from 90% to RUINED in one trip through the Muskeg, sleeping a couple of times outdoors... I haven't had that ever happen to normal bedrolls...

Once you're well settled, have crafted plenty of tools etc. then craft the coat. The kicker is carry weight. If you're settled and don't need to carry much anymore, except for the spoils of a hunt, you can afford to wear the bearskin coat. And the added warmth means you can spend more time outside picking the perfect spot for a bear ambush, or getting into position for a deer/wolf double-score.

I think I'll go for both, but the coat first, so I can spend time hunting more bears for the last components needed.

Disagree. once you get settled, tools crafted, just wear a Expadition parka + Windbreaker. it keeps you warmer than with the bear coat and it's lighter than the bear one aswell.

I found that right before I made the coat. Thank god I didn't.

Well yeah of course, but the question was whether to craft a bearskin bedroll or coat, not whether ot wear a bearskin coat or expedition parka lol

I know it's petty, but the coat is just so dang ugly that I'm going for the bedroll myself XD if it looked more like Jeremiah's wolf hat and coat I'd love to make it, but as it is I'd much rather go with the roll.

Besides, I already have the wolf coat, and I like the idea of being so warm when sleeping while traveling. Plus my sprint is low enough as it is, what with wearing all fur clothing. . .

As much as I think I'd like to say to make the coat, I think the bedroll makes the most sense.

Wolfcoats are easy to make and maintain considering how many wolves are around.

The bearskin coat would be more difficult to maintain since bears are more dangerous and rarer to come across.

So making it into a bedroll seems to be better since you would need to repair it less, and it still provides a massive temperature bonus.

No contest, really.

Fair enough I guess.

It also matters what difficulty you're playing on. If you're playing loper, go the bedroll all the way, as you'll mostly be freezing to death outside bear skin coat or not, and speed matters more than temperature differentials.
