I think nomad is the way to go, you can camp out in an area for weeks or a couple months even depending on difficulty, you could also just trek out foraging new areas and come back to your base, but that's a huge waste of energy. Just make little stash bases as you go and leave stashes behind when you move on to a new area.
Now that I have really good clothes I just overencumber myself until I can barely walk and then walk to the next map very slowly. Find the first sheter with storage, unload my gear and start exploring.
In my Survival (Stalker) game are 3 wolves in Lodge lake, one eventually walk at left of house - can surprise you in back door.
That place require good control of Cabin Fever risk, as no outdoor place near, but shed is not far.
