Hunting lodge as a base
It is not a bad place -excellent sight lines for the 2 wolf patrol near by,Abundant wood and bunnies ...and deer and an easy bear kill from the blind down at the big lake-after you
have killed 4 or 5 wolves that like the area.Has anyone scaled down the cliff behind the lodge -I cannot see a way that looks survivable. There is a rope attactment but no rope anywhere. I suspect it is in the large storage bin in the basement that does not open. Has to be a glitch ,no one is going to haul the rope all the way from FM.

Hunting lodge seems good however I found the broken rail map small without many poi, would not want to setup base on the map unless you are just thinking of hibernating. Just my opinion

If you try to hole up in a base and live off the surrounding land, you will find it will work for a while but eventually certain supplies like matches, cloth, metal, fishing tackle, cutting tools, etc. will eventually run out and you will have more and more trouble.

I think nomad is the way to go, you can camp out in an area for weeks or a couple months even depending on difficulty, you could also just trek out foraging new areas and come back to your base, but that's a huge waste of energy. Just make little stash bases as you go and leave stashes behind when you move on to a new area.

Now that I have really good clothes I just overencumber myself until I can barely walk and then walk to the next map very slowly. Find the first sheter with storage, unload my gear and start exploring.

I climb down Lodge cliff - start near the rope attachment, walking for left, then for right and down, may sprain some parts. BTW - First look if Bear is not awaiting bellow. :)

In my Survival (Stalker) game are 3 wolves in Lodge lake, one eventually walk at left of house - can surprise you in back door.

That place require good control of Cabin Fever risk, as no outdoor place near, but shed is not far.

Uh, there's a spiffy little cave up there. Coming up from the gate, make a right turn at the little side trail and follow around across a fallen log (there's two side by side over a ditch).
