Aurora Wolves?
I've been hearing talk about a different kind of wolf that occurs during the Aurora. I haven't experienced an Aurora night yet (probably since I prefer sleeping through the night), but I heard that the Aurora wolves are much tougher, which is making me nervous for experiencing the Aurora. Are they as manageable as regular wolves, or are they extra deadly? Should I avoid getting into a struggle with them?

There will be guides.

They are bright green and easily spotted, in story mode they dont seem much more dangerous, I beat three to near death ( theybled out shortly later) with a hatchet without resting, did mess up my clothes and require few sets of bandages though, and Will was pretty messed up, but probably could have survived one more fight if I went for scaring the wolf off, but I was in pretty high end fully repaired storymode gear and the wolves seem weaker than sandbox.

Im told the green wolves detect you far easier though, but that could just be bad luck, either way, caution is always advised.

In short, they could be more dangerous, they could be as dangerous, im a little unclear since i havent been back to sandbox since story came out. Either way they are dangerous, and should probably avoid them when possible.

Coat glows and puts out light every aurora or something. Odd that its so specific to wolves, dont know if we get aurora bears, or aurora deer, so it cant be "is mammal" or even "is predator".

Bears, the normal kind at this point, seem to go to their dens at night. I do not even want to contemplate the horror of a glowing green bear. Nope.

Rad rabbits would be pretty sweet though. :D

I can confirm there are indeed aurora bears, I've seen exactly one.

I can't tell you much more about them - when I realised it wasn't a wolf, I turned and ran!

Stay the hell away from them, that's all I can say. One got me early yesterday, ruined a 30 day + stalker run I had going. They are more unpredictable, their bite hurts way worse, and they are tougher to kill.

I've seen one aurora bear on the ice pack near ML fishing huts. I closed the door and went back inside like a chicken.

Myself also... up close.

Aurora wolves have about double the detection range of regular wolves. They will notice you from much farther away and begin stalking you. I haven't noticed a difference in their detection rate if you're crouched, so it seems to be only if you're walking/sprinting.

Also, they seem to have more health than a regular wolf, and do more damage in a fight. Although that could be simple bad luck--I tend to avoid fights.

The flashlight will keep them at bay if you use the bright setting, but they will just stay just outside of pounce range, and you have to keep the flashlight trained on them. I heard it was supposed to scare them off, but that's never happened to me. They just wait patiently for the battery to run out, then pounce.

I've come back to the game after an extended break. I took one green wolf in front of the Mountaineer's Hut in TWM at night and fought another that was waiting by the cabin while I was trying out the flashlight.(It did NOT work.)

The one that went down was still glowing green in the daylight the next morning. That same day after harvesting the carcass I tried for a wolf/deer combo by the rope closest to Crystal Lake. The wolf went after me instead of the deer and I fought it for barely a second (it was FAR too easy) before it broke off and ran away dying a VERY short time after. It only made it to the rabbit grove on Crystal Lake basically crossing from one side of the water to ther other.

I got the feeling that it was the other wolf I fought the night before. I have never had a wolf survive a knifing before but I was never able to locate a second corpse from the flashlight night knife fight. (Say it three times fast.)

Well i just had one come out nowhere and didn't even flinch at the distress pistol i fired at it, it also didn't care that i had a knife and about 80-85% health. I was carrying two bear blood bags, the hid, all of the guts, and was on stalker.
