Difficulty Levels Explained
I figured there are many new sandbox players here who are not quite sure which difficulty they want to play, so I made this short guide.

Pilgrim

Good for learning the basic mechanics or exploring the maps safely, but don't choose this mode if you want an actual survival experience. Depending on your age, health and neighborhood, it's often more likely you will die in real life before your character dies in Pilgrim.

Recommended for non-gamers.

Voyager

Welcome to World of Loot. Wildlife is aggressive but easily dealt with, and every house has an ample stockpile of food and clothing. If you want to be a survivor who never runs out of anything, play World of Loot. Excellent mode for a bit of the old wanton destruction of wildlife.

Recommended for beginners.

Stalker

Welcome to World of Dogs. Population: 30000 dogs and you. Would you like to know today's special? It's a full course of Being Detected by a Pack of Dogs from the Very Edge of the Game's Draw Distance, with a side of Infuriating Barking, followed by a Series of Suicidal Charges seasoned with Rapid Panting. This is your menu for the week, and foreseeable future.

Recommended for masochists.

Interloper

Welcome to the World of Frozen, a land of Antarctic winter where clothes do nothing. The difference between wearing the best available gear and going naked is approximately one minute of not taking damage from the cold.

No loot of any kind can be found in this mode, only harvestable resources. The longest time anyone has survived without cheating is 5 days, but some lucky players are rumored to have found matches and other items that the developers simply forgot to delete from Interloper. Using these items is obviously considered an exploit.

Recommended for experienced players seeking respite from dogs, as their numbers are much lower here.

I kinda want you to publish this as an actual guide. :steamhappy:

Sounds very accurate :)

Since they refuse to add separate settings for loot, wolves and weather, there really should be a difficulty level between Stalker and Interloper. Something with normal wolves, but with good loot being rare, but base necessities like matches still somewhat common.

Stalker

Welcome to World of Dogs. Population: 30000 dogs and you.

Number that can be translated be ONE wolf more in a given area relative to Voyager (observation after ~400 Hours in Stalker mode after ~418 in Voyager). :steammocking:

Nice ! but your tutorial on interloper is slightly wrong i think! The matches are rare but are intentionally integrated in the game because to remove an object in the game they do not do it 1 by 1 but they remove the line of code corresponding to the object.
In my current game I survived 16 days for now. (Using the 2 boxes of matches that I found)
You can also find prybar, hacksaw, hammer and Magnifying Lens that allow you to light fires outside on sunny days.
And again I do not think they forgot to remove these objects but that's just my opinion.

IMO, last three are very inacurate.

The first paragraph of interloper is probably accurate. The second paragraph is how I feel whenever I open up a locker with my prybar.

The chances for finding loot inside of containers on interloper setting is 10%. You'll actually find more loot laying around on the ground than inside of containers but there is always a chance to get loot in a container.

Yes I know, I have almost 1000 hours in the game. This is what I expect a newbie's first impression of each mode would be.

Well done! Love the tongue in cheek descriptions. :steamhappy:

"almost 1000 hours"? mr_bman has over 1000 hours, so that means he has more playtime than you and that means probably more play experience, so I would retract the "newbie's first impression" since it's kinda... wrong?

Unless that is, you were talking about Your original post, not mr_bman's. than if that's the case then I take back what I said bad about you. :P

I'm never playing Stalker again after what just happend in my last run. In fact, probably taking a break from the game entirely. Absolutely infuriating.

I haven't played much of this game, but I know that is completely false.

This paragraph was in fact written, perhaps surprisingly, in jest. Imagine that.

Yes, is just joke - or OP never play Interloper.

The only loot unavailable is top clothes, rifle, knife and hatchet.
And REDUX "global warming" affected Interloper weather.
