And no, an aurora won't wake you up in survival mode. At least not on Interloper.
So it seems that any time the aurora timing is altered as part of a release, any games started prior to that alteration will never see the aurora again.
I recall hoping that the frequency in Story mode because Story does have some instances when the aurora is needed was taken into account.
So the newish one is, by my reckoning, becoming just like the post-great update one. It was kind of neat while it lasted but now it is about as if it never happened.
About the only thing that seems rather strange is that something that has a planetary effect seems to be blocked by bad and inclement weather.
