Aurora frequency in Sandbox / Survival mode?
I was wondering what's the frequency of aurora in the said mode? And does the character wake up when his base's lights turn on?

I was wondering this too, I haven't seen the aurora in several nights now since day one, not even on the clear nights, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't one of the consequences of the geomagnetic storm supposed to be massively heightened aurora activity? Or does the aurora only turn up on scripted events in story mode?
Any answer?

I got it after 5 or 6 days just to find a NEW bug making it completely impossible to enter the elevator in the dam...

While the Aurora frequency is in survival you can put on the Radio in houses not in chars. I got in trouble with green lighted wolfes...there were 3 ...and normaly there is only on...i cant kill the,m with the gun(but mybe i was so shocked that i missed him) ....but in pleasant valley at the farmhouse the wolves are gone when aurora frequency...its a bit strange ...you dont wake up you only here the sound of the lights and so on while you are sleeping. Also you can craft in this lights at night....

Hard to say for sure since I'm asleep at night, most of the time, but probably twice a week on average. They're not uncommon.

And no, an aurora won't wake you up in survival mode. At least not on Interloper.

In my past few games I was experiencing the aurora a lot at first, then it would suddenly stop and never again appear. So I started a series of new games specifically to track aurora frequency, and found that it would appear at least once most nights, sometimes twice in a night. This continued well into the 100 day mark, until Hinterland released a patch that altered the aurora frequency. This directly coincided with the auroras stopping altogether on my prior save. New games started after the patch now experience the aurora a couple times a week, while I've advanced a month on my previous save without seeing the aurora once.

So it seems that any time the aurora timing is altered as part of a release, any games started prior to that alteration will never see the aurora again.

In my newest game I've had an aurora around the first week. It's the only one I know of, but to be fair I tend to sleep most of the night, so I might have missed some.

Since the update 9, I think which "fixed" aurora frequency, the occurence has become pretty infrequent in my survival sandbox. Although I could have missed some if they occur after I go to sleep, I have been trying to note their occurence in my journal. As far as I can tell, it has been about 30 game-days since the last manifestation of the aurora. I no longer carry the flashlight around because it has become so infrequent and the flashlight is a 1 kg (2.2 pound) item. It was fun to use on those nights when the aurora was in the sky. Now not so much. My survival sandbox is looking more and more like my great update sandbox as far as the aurora goes.

I recall hoping that the frequency in Story mode because Story does have some instances when the aurora is needed was taken into account.

Try starting a new Sandbox game and play for maybe 20 days, and see how many times the aurora appears. I'm willing to bet you will get the aurora in the new game, and that you will never again see it in your current game.

Yes, it's very rare in survival mode. I can't remember the last time I saw it in my stalker run frankly...I guess it's best not to expect it at all.

The sandbox I have going now was started specifically because my then existing one had started prior to story mode after the great update and had absolutely no auroras occurring. In the newish one I just had an aurora occur about 35 odd game days after the last one.

So the newish one is, by my reckoning, becoming just like the post-great update one. It was kind of neat while it lasted but now it is about as if it never happened.

About the only thing that seems rather strange is that something that has a planetary effect seems to be blocked by bad and inclement weather.

Got another on day 28, so that's 2 per month for now.

I just got a fourth one after hibernating for about 6 days since the last one. At least on Pilgrim it's once a week, apparently.
Maybe it is once a week and I've just slept through half of them.
