Rope climbing and encumberment

Why (with the last update) did the devs suddenly decide that you cannot climb or descend ropes whilst encumbered. I've been trying thnik why. Is it...

1) They saw that too many players were climbing ropes heavily encumbered and subsiquently falling to the deaths? I've had some hairy climbs like this though surely it's the player's choice whether to risk it or not. It's not like the devs to make an aspect of the game easier, but it is not entirely unlikely.

2) The limit is related to something in Story Mode? Like having to choose to carry either item A or B, but not both. Seems very unlikely.

3) They just wanted to slow the players down more and make them waste more resources? Probably the most likely reason, but coming down from TWM with lots of goodies now feels like an effing chore.

Besides from being slowed down whilst humping a lot of equipment, the climb limit is a major frustration in other ways. Like being below 30kg, but your carrying a fair bit of gear and you get significantly wet in a snow storm only to find your now 0.05kg over the limit. Or when your fatigue drops low enough in the middle of a two stage rope climb (going up or down) forcing you to shed gear.

Rope climbing was a nice addition to the game, but I now go out of my way to avoid them where possible.

I can understand not being able to climb up while heavily laden - it is pretty debilitating anyway - not so much about climbing down. I avoid climbs up unless they are absolutely necessary. Now I'll probably avoid climbing down though that depends on the circumstances.

the one change i dislike a lot, i used to enjoy climbing using coffee and all to get as much stamina as possible, but now when you played for a while with gear in all slots it is next to impossible without dropping all my gear, so nah i see climbing as something that is pointless now sadly.

Right now my guy weighs in around 55kg so forget climbing :)

Like many have said. I now avoid ropes at almost all cost.. Zig zagging nearby usually works well.

It's funny; I started playing only recently so I never knew there was a time that you could ascend/descend the ropes while encumbered until I came across this thread. It has never bothered me in the slightest. In fact, I quite enjoyed having to "thin out" my backpack. It puts in perspective just what is important and what isn't.
