Why isn't drawing the bow back while squatting a thing?
Am I doing something wrong? Like, I can't sneak up on anything because I have to be standing to draw the bow back. Also, was attacked by wolf when holding bow and lost bow forever after the bout. Not sure if that's a glitch or not.

Likely because the bottom end of the bow would be hitting the ground and we aren't good enough to shoot while holding the bow sideways. Just my guess. Sneak, then stand and shoot quickly.

Wolf and bear attacks can damage any of your equipment, so it may have been destroyed. I have also had belongings spill out onto the ground as a result of a wolf struggle.

In real life, that wouldn't work well. Try using a bow like that IRL. Difficult at best, and you'd be ineffective. I doubt even the muscles to draw it back would work right, from a squating position.

I've tried to do that with a bow before, all that happens is you fall over.

It is a "thing" when you get Archery Skill to Level 5. You can crouch and shoot the bow. But intil you have mastered the skill needed for proficient archery, you cannot. IOW- it takes practice to learn how to do it.

Archery Skill:

Increased by scoring a hit on an animal or crafting arrows.

Level 1 bonus: Basic archery skill.

Level 2 bonus: Bow sway reduced by 25%. Arrow damage increased by 10%.

Level 3 bonus: Bow sway reduced by 50%. Arrow damage increased by 10%. Critical Hit chance increased by 15%.

Level 4 bonus: Bow sway reduced by 75%. Arrow damage increased by 10%. Critical Hit chance increased by 25%. Bleed Out time reduced by 25%. Per-use condition loss reduced by 50%.

Level 5 bonus: Bow sway reduced by 75%. Arrow damage increased by 25%. Critical Hit chance increased by 50%. Bleed Out time reduced by 50%. Per-use condition loss reduced by 50%. Can fire Survival bow when crouched.

you CAN do it from crouching in real life - my gramps was a bowhunter, and he didn't believe in compound bows either. Mad skills. Basically, kneel on one knee and draw, it's not really that hard. I find the mechanic frustrating as standing up and shooting means animals are very aware of where I am and tend to run off. Makes no sense to me, but it's good to know if you get really good with a bow you can fire from crouching. I think I'll be spending more time practicing ingame.

If you want to practice and up skill level, bunnies are good. You rarely lose an arrow to it missing and flying off into nowhere, they tend to hit the snow and stick there to be picked up again. May break a few, just make sure you have brich saplings to make new shafts and craft new arrows if you break any. Just find a bunny rabbit area that isn't in a wolf patrol area, and practice. Once you can hit the small, rapidly moving targets easily, the bigger ones are a snap. And a hit on a rabbit always means a pelt, a gut and some hasenpfeffer. Bunnies don't run away with arrows, like deer or wolves do, lol!

Nice, I didn't know this! To be fair I'm in PV and there's a archery target outside the barn so I tend to go and fire at that or, if my meat is getting low, there are deer that wander through the haybales which give me a fair bit of cover so I can shoot behind those. So far, so good - I just don't like wasting meat, even ingame, so hunting deer when I don't need them is something I avoid. I may give the rabbits a try.

The targets are good topractice aiming, but do nothing for leveling up Archery skill. Every arrow hit on an animal does give skill points though. And it takes a ton of bunny burgers to satisfy your hunger, lol! Shame that we don't have more crafting to do with the pekts though. I want bunny slipers for my cold feet, lol! (It would be funny if they added them, and left the rabbit ears on the art... just saying.)
