Still looking for a hacksaw
On day 25 of an Interloper run. Thoroughly searched DP, CH, ML, and FM. Still no hacksaw. :( At least now I have a knife and 4 arrowheads courtesy of the furnace in FM, but not enough scrap to make an axe while I was there, so no saplings. Running out of cloth as well. Guess I need to head to PV, but getting there from ML involves facing Fluffy....

Not sure if each game spawns items in different places but I found my hacksaw and hatchet in CH.

Yeah no hatchet on Interloper, but I've always foud a hacksaw in each region before. Never had this much trouble finding one, but I'm starting to make a plan to do without.

I _think_ I've found a hacksaw, either in the barn, the farm house or the radio hut in PV every time I've played on Interloper. If not every time, then most.

I feel your pain Dave, i'm on day 28 interloper and still the hammer is nowhere to be found :(.

My last interloper run was at PV. I started in the south of Skeeters ridge. I headed straight to Farmstead, and found the Hammer in the basement. I was like "Lucky" ! Couldn't find the hacksaw or any bedroll at radio station, rural houses and the red barn though. I died trying to get to ML :(

I cant help on the hacksaw. Ive always found several. But for the hammer, check the back seat of all the cars in CH and the lookout in both CH and Mystery Lake.

thanks Thrux, but I just found my hammer in the lower dam, I got lucky and didnt encounter the wolf. About that hacksaw, I know of 2 locations where the hacksaw is sort of hidden. Both the trappers hut in ML and the (work)shop in CH can have a hacksaw spawn under the workbench. They're very easy to miss without crouching and light.

The barn in PV sometimes has a hacksaw in the same sort of area, but under the metal table, (not workbench) with the toolchest on top.. But id be reticent to go to PV for only the hacksaw.

My usual interloper route that "ensures" i have all my items

Mountaineer hut(TWM) -> abandoned cache(PV) -> signal -> farmstead (hammer/hacksaw) -> barn (Hammer/hacksaw) -> outbuildings -> Abandoned lookout (CH) -> Quonset (hacksaw) -> Fishing Village (hammer) -> all fishing huts near fishing village (hammer) -> Hibernia (Hacksaw) (DP) -> Riken (forge)

I have done a couple of runs using the same route and it has always given me a hammer and hacksaw. The problem is that it sometimes well hidden and you gotta search extremely thoroughly.

Hibernia can have hacksaw, hammer or crowbar and sometimes 2/3 of those, I don't remember ever going there and not getting a single tool which is nice.

In interloper, there is never a hammer at DP. Hinterland made sure of that I believe.

So I finally faced down Fluffy with my makeshift knife and found a hacksaw in Carter Dam. Sadly by this point the weather was terrible (42 days!) and I had only deerskin pants and rabbit mittins. I'm just not good enough to kill 4 wolves to make the coat without a bow.

So going out in that weather is always a risky proposition. Even so, I managed to come back from sub-10% condition a few times (once was with Cabin fever and foolishly figured I'd sleep in the cave between Carter Dam and PV, only to realize when it came time to sleep that that's an indoor location! D'oh! Had to hightail it back to Camp office where I keep my wood so I could spend the night in the fishing hut...)

Finally I did end up dying when I was low on condition with no food left, heading back to fishing huts to fish and got accosted by 3 wolves during high wind conditions (so no fire to scare them off).

I guess we all have to die of something, but I'm proud of that run.

Is this fluffy unkillable?
zeral_storm Jan 16, 2017 @ 12:36pm
Interloper is to much based on pure luck atm. You might get tons of matches but no food at all (which sucks if you spawn in DP). Or you might get a hacksaw, crowbar and a lantern, but no way to start a fire so you will die of thirst...

I'm currently playing what is, to date, my only real attempt at interloper (since stalker was far too easy) and I'm on day 44 and I've found (imo) an awful lot of loot. 2 crowbars, 2 hammers, ski jacket and lots more good clothes, 2 magnifying glasses, lantern, lots of wood matches, and finally found a hacksaw at quonset hut. I even got a bedroll early on in ML. I haven't even gone to TM, DP, FM yet. I started in PV and I've had very few problems except for the incredibly diabolical weather and the game spawning enemies around me (sometimes even spawning them in my line of sight!) based on time/weather criteria rather than having them patrolling static as is more common in stalker. It was something I noticed almost immediately, and imo it is totally unfair, not fun, and with no easy way to defend against it except play super duper cautiously and slowly and even THEN you can be randomly wolf AWPnoscoped at any time. Who enjoys that?

edit: Got a firestriker 88% in DP cave and made hatchet, knife, and 30 arrowheads... this is actually pretty easy too except for the randomly spawning zombie wolves.
