Shooting rabbits with a bow
Can some one teach or give me some pointers on how to shoot rabbits with the bow? i'm fairly competent with shooting bigger game with the bow but want to speed up my bow skills. do i crouch and wait for the rabbit or crouch and move towards them? where should i aim?

It's really hard is the #1 tip!

It is hard but I have had moderate success at the lower level. Once you get to level five you just crouch in front of them and shoot them when they get close. Not really a challenge. For me it works better to not crouch. I try to get ahead for them, pick the spot that I hope they will be at when the arrow arrives. Another one that works for me is to herd them until the reach the end of there pathing and try for them as they dash toward me. I would guess my last time before I got to level 5 that I had around a 30 to 40 percent success. Uses up the bow and arrows so make sure you have the ability to replace them.

I've the same problem. I can shoot a charging wolf, stalk deer, ambush bears from a car, but I've never shot a rabbit. They just scamper around the place so I always miss.

I'd love to hear from some people who can...

I did it once, but I lost like 2 arrows before doing it. :(

Don't bother mate, just make a snare and snare the buggers instead of wasting bow and arrow condition

They are good for practicing fast aim and shoot. But like @athikers says, success rate isn;t 100%, not even close. Lots of broken arrows from hitting trees or rocks, instead of Bunny Foo Foo, so only do it if you have multiple good condition bows, lots of arrows, or the supplies to craft more when breakage happens.

I have usually bow shot rabbits by the corraling method, herd them to an area where they have to turn and come back at me, and shoot as they come back. Snares are more effective for getting pelts, guts and meat. but bow shotting rabbits is good pricatice to get better skills with the bow.

But... it may become easier or harder after the new bow aiming system is interoduces, soon to come IIRC? Test Branch- new Sandbox Update?

The basic tactic is you want the rabbit moving towards you as much as possible. You're crouched so they come close. When you stand to shoot, do so asap. You will have to learn where to put the aiming dot so as to not over or under shoot the rabbit. Then pray.

Except for the standing up not being necessary at Level 5, that is pretty much what you have to do. As you get better, you can do it differently.

"...aim between the eyes, Joe, sometimes they charge when they're wounded... " :steamhappy:

I used them for aiming practice, but it's pretty much corralling them into areas where they will run back past you so you have a close shot.

you get the same skill up points making and crafting bows and arrows, so just do that to increase ya skill higher

@iwasa. Then pray. Thanks for the giggle :-)

Thanks all! Well, i'm aware that it's very wasteful on resources but i have 11 bows and about 60-70 arrow shafts, and i'm almost half way thru lvl4 archery. just hope to hit lvl 5 before i move on from tmw region. it's day 150 and i've never been out of twm yet...

At this point, i'm positioning myself in the path of a rabbit so that it's hopping directly towards me. aim about 1-4 ft (depending on gradient) in front of the rabbit, stand up and fire. i was consistently over shooting but after 7-8 shots, i can hit a rabbit once in maybe 3 shots. it's time consuming and resource heavy, not recommended for long term survival, but an update is coming so i'll be losing this save anyway. It's good to know that some of the best in TLD are having difficulties killing these furry pests, it makes success sweeter.

Hey, if you are getting a 33% return, you "are" on of the best in TLD. Looking forward to the update to see what I fall in love with and what makes me so mad I could just spit.

Finally Ive done it! Archery level 5! And more importantly, I can now safely say I am able to hunt rabbits using a bow. After one-hitting rabbits 5 times in a row, I would say hunting rabbits with a bow is possible (but not resource effective). And for those who are saying bows are useless, dun give up, its just a matter of geting used to it.
