Do YOU use the deer into wolf trick?
Yes Or No? I don't. I just want to see other people's opinions on the subject.

YES. One of my favorite ways to hunt and save rifle ammo or arrows. No wasted bullets, no lost arrows, often a chance to get a deer AND a wolf with only one bullet or arrow. 2 for 1 is always good. :)

Yup! You get wolf and a deer with one shot. Imho best spot is on Crystal lake, using that fishing hut as an escape spot.

Yeah, that is the only early game's hunting way. A whole pile of fresh meat.:LDODheart: Whoa!

All the time! Sometimes I like to position it so I can jump into a car or a ice fishing hut.

No wolf struggle no flare or torch just some quick footwork! It really gets the blood pumping to know the pup is right on your heels though! :D

"Buy one, get one free" is always a good deal :D

If possible, I use wolves to kill deer and then snuff out the wolf.

I don't use it much, in fact I've only use it twice because I'm not that skilled. I never seem to fall into the position where I can scare the deer into the wolf and get the wolf to chase it. the one time I did do it was really lucky! a wolf started chasing me so I ran away fast as I could. I saw a deer and started running towards it hoping that it would agro the deer instead. it did! :D ... then I snuck up behind the wolf chowing on the deer and blasted 'em!

Yes. Safed me a few times.

Most efficient way to hunt and save resources or if on Loper, the best way early on to simply survive. It can be tough sometimes though and scaring off the angry fur ball can be dangerous.

yup

By god yes, that's the holy way of hunting in the game.

Except it's near pointless in Stalker, since you can't eat all of that wolf meat without getting parasites. By the time you would reach level 5 cooking, that meat would be long gone. So maybe stalker players can shed light to this as it is not my area xD

I've used 'wolf into bunny' once or twice in evasionary tactics
Scoundrel Mar 28, 2017 @ 1:29pm
I don not attempt to hunt wolves deliberately in Stalker.

As some have pointed out, parasites are a thing, and wolf meat is only 700 calories per full unit of meat. They also carry less meat by far than either deer or bear per animal.

You can pretty safely eat a single full peice of bear or wolf meat per day (1% risk) so it is NOT useless as some would have you believe....far from it. But I am not willing to spend a bullet on a wolf unless I have to.

I DO use wolves for hunting though. Herd the deer into a wolf......close in on the wolf until he alerts on you....then sprint away, preferably into a nearby car, fishing hut with a door, house, etc. This can take a little work herding the deer into a favorable position, but it usually isn't too hard. The wolf will forget about the deer leaving it for you to get a little later.

This is fairly easy to do....but not completely without risk.Still, I farmed an entire herd of deer at the PV farmhouse on Interloper using this method. If done carefully, you score a whole deer at no cost.

It works well in Loper once you have a bow. I stay way back and launch an arrow. If it hits near the wolf it will run off and if you hit the wolf you get a bonus.
MHC Mar 28, 2017 @ 1:42pm
Bumbled into that the other day when I was messing around with using the bow for the first time. Spooked a deer which ran straight into a wolf. I may try to use it a bit more in the future but it's not something I would go out of my way to do.

I'm playing on stalker, Paratezi, and like Scoundrel said it's a tolerably safe risk if you only eat one wolf/bear steak a day. Typically what I end up doing is eating one wolf/bear steak and then covering the rest of my calories in fish and the occasional rabbit. According to the stats in the journal I've eaten 194 pounds of meat and 384 pounds of fish. Been more deer recently since I've been ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the bow but that's not standard operating procedure. Got lucky on the parasites since early on I didn't notice the risk and was chowing down on wolf a lot more, then I noticed them and noticed it ticked up as I ate more.

@MHC, if you aren't doing it already, harvest your kills in .5kg bits. That way you get twice the cooking points toward level 5.
