My philosophy is if I'm going to commit to the stress of outdoor crafting, I live on Jackrabbit for the snaring and fishing and make the occassional crafting trip to Fish Camp and just be careful. I craft while crouched, which...no idea if that helps but I try to do all that stuff crouched. Harvest and even chop wood if I remember to.
I've never had a problem with crafting and dropp off my craftable items in the table and flammable materials so I can make a fire. If predators come, the fire can be a deterrent. I always practice crouching before doing anything outside. Not sure if it helps but I feel a bit more secure.
