Leaving meat outside?
Does it preserve it longer? I mean it's basically a freezer outside.

Yes, it does! :) (about 1% a day outside against 5ish% inside.)

Haven't compared it with 'outside' outside, but decay is at least seriously slowed storing meat in abandoned car boots compared to inside as well. Helps seriously with inventory management when you can see up to 40 kilos of meat chunks along with condition and weight all at once.

Yep! I'd cook it first, though.

And as of now, wildlife don't touch it.

Don't cook it. You can at least non-beta. You can bring meat back from 0% to about 40-50% and eat it then.

I've observed that Wolves will be attracted to and consume meat left out in the open if it is left withing their patrol path or if they are lead to a pile of meat by the player.

On one occasiont, I had killed a deer on the ice at Mystery but I had been gathering fire wood was already too overburdened to carry it all back to the Camp Office. When I returned to transport what I had left behind (iirc, it was two or three pieces, plus guts and hide), a wolf was patroling the area near where I killed the dear. I waited to see if he'd walk off a safe distance, but he became distracted by the nearby meat. He headed over, took a slice, and ran off. I was not happy with Mr. Wolf that day!

On another occasion, I was boosting my archery skill to level 5 by hunting the wolves that patrol the ice at Coastal Highway. To save my self some logistical headaches, I was aggroing wolves one at a time and leading them to a nearby fishing shack where I could kill them (hopefully on the spot), harvest their remains, and cook the meat up all in one go. I left their meat on the ice for easy collection in bulk after I had finished dealing with prowling wolves. The thing is, when I'd lure a wolf over to the shack, he'd lose interest in me and go for the stacks of meat that were piling up. They'd even ignore the bits of decoy meat that I tried dropping to get them off my supplies.

It would appear as though wolves will treat meat found out in the open as they would a dropped decoy when they come across any in their patrol area or when stalking the player.

However, I've never seen a wolf go out of its way (ie: deliberately leave its patrol area) to investigate the pile of meat that I've stashed of outside of my home, however. Not yet, at least.

Actaully. I have heard once you drop a decoy. The all meat on the ground is fair game for them on any part of the map. At least that is my understaning of what others have been mentioning of it. As the wolf cannot tell decoy meat from normally dropped meat.
Makes sense. Sort of.

But still, I haven't seen a wolf go out of its way to sniff out meat that I've left cached my front porch.
Unfortunately, yes. Just leave it in stacks places wolves/bears can't get to it. Always have more food thatn I know what to do with in this game..

So... for all this time, I made this big mistake of storing it inside

Haha...yep. I would cook as much as possible though to get your mastery to level 5 asap, then you can let the meat spoil all you want whether it's uncooked or cooked and eat it anyway. Just remember to make sure it's cooked before you eat it. Parasites are not an exciting 10 days to go through.
You know, I've never understood the need to be offended by thread necromancy. Is thread cloning, posting a new topic with the same exact thread title, somehow more desirable?

Sometimes Valve locks necro threads for the reason that the info might be out of date. I don't see why anyone would be offended by a old thread, but some people do get angry about it. When there is dozens of threads on the same topic it results in having a crap ton of threads to sift through for those of us who actually use the search function. People are supposed to use the search function before they post, but they don't.
I've heard that "reason" offered numerous times over the years. But for the reasons you state, I would prefer that all information be contained in a single thread also. Even a halfway savvy internet scholar should be able to search / Google for current information. Adding a date filter is by no means difficult.

Thread locks seem like a completely arbitrary thing where there isn't abuse being hurled around amongst the participants. But I'm not running these forums, so.....It just amuses me when people who clearly hate thread necros insist on bumping them back up to the top page by injecting their disdain.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
