You may be thinking of the M249 SAW. The FN Minimi was the original M249 made in Belgium and later used by the U.S and Canada. The U.S just adopted it and made the M249 SAW.

I actually bothered to look it up so I did know that it was produced in Belgium, I personally wouldnt count it if it was adopted by another country, because if that were true there would be a whole lot of stuff in different countries that are from other countries.
