I don't know how respawning works in this game, but I just found a farm in Germany that I want to claim as my home. It has plenty of space and resources, I wanted to furnish the place and make it mine. I'm just wondering if the zombies would respawn while I'm still around? Or if I place a bed for example?

you need to place a safezone generator, it prevents zombie and loot spawn

That's expensive. How far does the generator stretch? Should I place it in the house, the middle of the farm?

it will show you, you may need like 3 to cover a farm

I already made one. Cleared out an entire town, got what I needed + the XP to craft one :P

It's the Mortiz farm, placed one in the garage, it should clear around the house and in the house.

Another question, do things despawn in a safezone? So if I just put my food on the countertop can I expect it to remain there if I leave?

it will despawn based on its default despawn time so dont worry but if you leave singleplayer it will despawn but you can craft storages

yeah, safezones also stop current item spawns.
