Gas Masks Too Rare!?!

Well took me forever but I finally found a gas mask...
I find this "essetial item" to be way to rare for how badly we need it to be able to explore the higher level places.
Basically gave up actualy exploring for it and just kept exiting and going back into the game until it finally spawned... (Took about 50 trys.)
I think the item should be uncommon rather than rare, or at least the mask anyways.
Or have a makeshift version of it but you need a high level crafting to make it. (But you will still need to find the filters.)
Just kind of annoyed how hard it is to find it. Also the fact that people will camp at the places where they spawn to kill low level players that are looking for it...

What do you think they should do?

I think there should be a makeshift mask, but you will still have to find the filters at least they arn't as rare.

Where do they even spawn? I'm assuming they spawn at Scorpion-7 on Washington since you can find filters there, but I have never come across one.
Visited that place hundreds of times, it's been great coming back with an inventory full of pills, needles and the occasional Railgun, but a gasmask? Ha.

A makeshift gasmask would be nice, though there'd have to be some sort of disadvantage to the normal gasmask, maybe burning through filters faster?

Gasmasks are supposed to spawn inside Fire buildings like the fire stations and stuff like that. But like I said, they are really rare... All you'll usually find are filters which are useless without the mask.

And the normal gasmask use the filters up really fast so. Ya, you point makes sence.

I understand your point that high tier loot should not be given out freely, but I'd hardly call the current situation "work."
Work in my opinion would be like killing a mega zombie to get a sniper or high caliber ammo, not running by Scorpion-7 100 times hoping that maybe this time a gas mask decided to spawn.


Luckily, Scorpion-7 employees left hundreds of thousands of pills and vaccines laying around, so if you really want to explore a deadzone just stuff your inventory full of them and use them as you need.

Yeah I agree, there is a difference between work and waiting.

Rolling and waiting for the RNG (random number generator) to pick the value that gives a gas mask isn't work, it's near mindless grinding and boring loot farming.

Work would be getting the materials gathering to either make the item, or be ready to search for the item in a hard to get to place that almost practically guarantees you the reward of said item.

I would almost rather it would be loot from a mega zombie. But nope. Just got to go into the area a 100 times until if finally spawns... And besides if it was a high level crafting item you would still have to "work" to get it. Kill some zombies to get XP and then level up your crafting. Then you still have to find the meterials to build it. And you will still need to find filters. So sounds balanced to me. Better than trying to find one where all the players with OP weps will camp and wait for you to fall into there trap since there are only a few places it spawns...

"Too rare" Are you playing on Washington? Because gas masks only spawn on Russia map, in Firewatch base and other fire stations, as well as filters. Hazmat hoods have the same properties as a gasmask but it only spawns on Washington, as a counterpart. As for the cratfable gasmasks, I don't see the point because gas masks are not even that rare.

But what I'm saying is that I go to litteraly all the fire stations and the firewatch base and I never found one so I gave up looking and just kept exiting and rejoining the game until one spawned... (Which took about 50 or so trys.) An item that essetial shouldn't be that rare...

Was it in Hard mode? If not, then yeah, it likely should be less rare. Though, that is kind of pushing things even in hard mode.

I wasn't on hard mode I was on Gold. :| And it still took forever...

Something is weird with key aspects of the loot system, since now I'm finding blowtorchs almost 2 at a time in the Moscow gas stations like I used to in my long played PEI map.

Maybe after awhile gas mask drop rates will improve.

Would think Gold mode wouldn't be that bad with loot.

Gasmasks are supposed to be too rare because if they were common, everyone would have access to deadzones and good loot.
