Unturned
Does unturned work with LAN? Or do we need hamachi, tunngle, etc.?
I tried playing unturned with my buddy, at my home, connected to the same internet, LAN.
But for some reason i typed "Localhost", with the correct number below it, it still cannot log in with the game saying, "timed out"
Was I missing something?

the host was not hosting
Type "what is my IP" into Google (Or your friend whatver) and copy and paste that and send it to eachothr or somthing, the person who host' the game will connect with localhot, and the person who joined will need to type in the host's IP.

Atleast I think, never played through LAN for Unturned/... ^.^
You need to use your local ip, on windows 7: type cmd in search bar when you open the windows menu and press enter. Then type ipconfig, press enter. In IPv4 address you should have something like 192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.1.xxx, thats what you need for other computer of your local area network (lan)

See this Unturned Wikia[unturned.wikia.com] page for how to properly set up your listen server:

My experience of LAN

I tried to join to an Unturned server on LAN at home. It was quite hectic.

Part of it might be that the (listen) server was Win7 and the host was on a Win8.1 machine on laptop. Most of the time it did not connect. Disabling the firewall enabled me to connect to the host. Once. For 30 minutes. The next time I tried it, I couldn't connect any more. No matter which machine was the host/guest and whether Windows Firewall was disabled...

It might have been due to other factors than the game itself (e.g.: Fireall, WiFi vs cable, different Windows Version, Steam account /one had free games only, the other had games I bought for money).

All I'm saying, that is could be tricky to make it work.

"Localhost" is for when you are hosting a server on the same computer.
You are going to have to find out the IP address of a LAN server you want to join.
Never tried it for Windows, but for Mac go into System Preferences - Network Settings - WiFi Settings. The IP should be in the middle.
It worked fine for me. A windows 8 and a windows 7. Worked fine and was easy. The problem was we couldn't find each other once in, took a while to find each other, but that's a different thread. Local connections definitely work.
Same for me, Windows xp and Windows 7, I was testing some things. Shared wireless connection via ethernet cable from my tower to the laptop lol ! It worked after restarting the laptop though.
