Still, the developer has plans to simplify multiplayer hosting by adding the option to create a server in-game.
Do some random commands (you can check it in rocket wiki)
download unturned
Make a shortcut
Right click propriidkhowtospell
Put blablablalbalbla (still,Rocket wiki)
Change some things (don't forget -port and -name)
Put some mods (if you want)
Start Server
Shutdown server
Configure the mods
And start
ALL servers, regardless of function, have their own little nuances you have to be ready to deal with: bugs, workarounds, annoying glitches, updates.
Unturned is no exception. I ran a UT99 server for the longest time (some players might remember "The LItterbox"), and I currently run a Killing Floor server (The House of Chop).
All of them require attention to detail in order to get it to run the way YOU want them to.
Some of them require routine maintenance, which you can mostly automate. I shutdown my Unturned servers at 11:54pm and run a backup script at 11:55pm. After it's done, it reboots the machine and starts up my Unturned servers while I sleep. I do this in case the Unturned server crashes in an unrecoverable state, which has happened to me once already.
The other issue you have to deal with are OS updates that require a reboot. Those should be done manually, as shutting down an Unturned server hard like that can cause it to corrupt.
It took me a good amount of time (almost a whole day) to get my server the way I wanted it. And even then, I'm battling updates that Nelson pushes to Steam, which automatically make it down to me, which requires me to go and fetch the new Rocket builds, seemingly almost every other day.
It's a pain in the ass for sure, but my players appreciate what I do to keep the servers running. Every now and then, they thank me for providing such a neat place to play.
It's worth it.
I do however have a great deal of respect for you on the grounds that you sound professional and that you've got your server to work despite the clunky/unstable nature of Unturned's multiplayer system.
I myself host Diablo II, Tf2, Warcraft 3, and an assortment of other games, and never have I had such trouble with hosting.
Well done and I hope your server continues to run without error.
Nothing rude about it - that's just reality.
