How do I build a second floor to my house

I have wooden platforms and pilars but how do I build the second floor, do I have to put down pillars in the middle?

You need to look to your platform.

Also a better thing is to get a wooden platform and use a wooden frame on it in the crafting system to get a wooden hole so you can place a ladder and climb to the 2nd floor while you are in your base.
