how do u fill up a canteen?

of course you have to be near the water

There ARE canteens in 3.0 but they seem bugged not to actually fill the thirst bar when used.

You can refill canteens in wells, in campgrounds, if the lakes are frozen. Also, sorry for necropost.

Canteens are found at campgrounds in the 3.0 you just drink it and fill it up with seawater by left clicking the seawater while having it equipped.

BONUS TIP: if you have a crate placed down and you want to move stuff as fast as possible, Hold down the ctrl (Control) Key and right click (or drop them with left click instead of right click.)

rain barrels and water storage is pretty good if you have a finite base and can defend it well. there are tutorials on how to do so, and the only downsides is that you have to wait for it to fill and a really determined enemy can destroy it if they try hard enough.
