Escalation is heavily pvp oriented and lacks several mechanics (you can't break you legs, weapons and clothing don't break), I would suggest you try Buak since it has a progression connected with mining and a legit storyline (some characters even have voice lines). Plus Buak was designed to be played as a coop pve map.

Buak and Kuwait are both incredible curated maps that can be enjoyed fully in singleplayer, Buak is a bit more complicated due to the more grindy nature of progression, but it's made up for with incredible atmosphere and an interesting storyline, Kuwait offers a refreshing twist on the stale formula started by russia, and will feel much more familiar to standard survival.

Kuwait also has a very long and unique storyline that takes quite a while to progress fully, with a much more absurd concept in comparison to the more grounded and spooky feel of Buak.

Buak's dialogue and story telling is bad. The dialogue is worse than that one Tommy Wiseau movie.
