Need help with my chests!

I placed a bunch of chests in multiplayer (but it is a locked server and no one else was in when I placed them down, or afterwards) and for some reason, just one chest highlights with red instead of green, and I can not open the chest highlighted in red. Normally it shows "Press f to open" (or whatever it is) but this prompt fails to come up as well. Is this a glitch or is the chest locked somehow or what?

Were you in a group (through the character menu screen) when you placed those chests? Try selecting that same group then opening the chests.

UPDATE: It stays the same when I update the game, and when i run it in single player. No idea what it is :/

@Stein no I didnt even know that was a thing, but I made them all and placed them at the same time and all the others are fine

@qb344 it is a password-locked server and it doesnt show anyone getting in, and I am like 100% I placed the chest (unless I have lost my mind)

did you place the chest and then change groups on your character?

you can just break them and get whatever was inside and place new chests

@James I dont think i did. The other chests that I placed at the same time are still accessible. is this just a possible bug? I dont want to bother the devs if I did something stupid, but i am not finding others with this problem either.

How many axe hits should it take to break a chest? Ive been wailing on it for a solid minute (skill two for both melee and the mining/woodcutting skills) and it wont break. The particle effect changed and it makes a deeper weird noise, but the chest just doesnt seem to want to break. And I have all my military hardware in there.

should only take about 20 seconds

Thats when it started making the weird noise when i tried to break it open. Is this some sort of weird bug then?

yeah... sounds like something weird is going on. Both the fact that you don't have ownership and that you can't break it..... OH is PvP on? You may need PvP enabled to break stuff.

I tried to switch it into PvP and it still isnt working. And when i try hitting it with the axe, it sounds like a gunshot on impact. Why cant I play one game without weird ♥♥♥♥ happening in them?

That shows the weird effect coming off of it and shows that the chest, which I absolutely placed myself, is highlighted in red. And to reiterate, it sounds like a friggin gun shot when i hit it with the axe.

you are getting the correct hit marker... but yeah I don't know what those effects coming off it are... I don't THINK I remember those when I tested breaking chests... I also don't remember an unexpected sound

Well when i hit the other chests, there are less particle effects, they are a light brown, and the noise sounds just like what an axe hitting soft wood would sound like. But you can see there that it is dark wood effect and what looks like it might be string coming off of it for some reason :?

I am going to report it as a bug to the devs and hope they know a way to fix that they might be willing to share.
