Thankfully, the plane sound has returned last update (a week ago) and it is very distinct and clear when it happens.
Planes tend to fly at about noon time, and almost always flies it's shadow over your location in singleplayer (as if the sound wasn't enough) and then drops its care package off at whatever map preset location it is aimed at.
I have had a plane do an airdrop at night, but during the session I was playing, I think the thing was trolling me anyway, since it would fly within hear shot, then go all the way to the other side of Russia before dropping the load off in a hard to reach of find spot.
That damn red smoke signal doesn't last for very long at all and it is pretty hard trying to find that brown box in the landscape.
Only that can call Airdrie on singerplayer
