How to "claim" a bed?

I'm sure this probably super obvious, but I cant figure out for the life of me how to "claim" a bed. I'm constantly dying and getting spawned in random places of the map unable to progress in this game. How do a claim a bed so I can set my spawn point? Ice found several beds and tried stuff but nothing works. Haha please help this noob

Yeah Ive used the "F" key it doesnt work for some resaon. That was the first thing I tried.

Okay so heres the real question. Do I have to make my onw bed or can I just find one and claim it for myself?

make your own...or find one and place it

Gotta make your own. Make sure you are actually placing the Cot or Sleeping Bag.

if you find a bed (cot), chances are it's already claimed. the best way to tell is to mouseover and if it highlights red that means it's already claimed otherwise if it's green it's not claimed and you can press f to claim. 99 times out of 100 the bed will be claimed, so you'll need to craft your own by using 8 cloth and 5 scrap metal. personally, a sleeping bag is much easier to farm materials for than a bed because you only need 7 cloth and 2 duct tape.
