Game makes my laptop overheat
The laptop's still well over the system requirements. When I start playing the game the fan comes on almost immediately once I get to the main menu, then the laptop starts heating very quickly.

Turning down the settings doesn't really help, and I don't have the funds to just "buy a new PC" because of this issue.

How do I fix this?

I have an Intel i3 processor, 8GB RAM and Intel Iris 6100 integrated graphics. I know it's a laptop which isn't dedicated for gaming, but it's still well above the requirements for the game.
This happens to me too, with a laptop dedicated for gaming.

Is it a Mac of some kind?
Those tend to have horrible cooling.

Enable V-Sync at game settings.

Depending on the FLOP/s and/or clockspeed it might not be.
Try cleaning it, dialing up the fans or undervolting it.
also what temperature is your "overheating". a cpu can reach a temperature of up to 80 degrees and not do any damage, 90 degrees (centigrade by the way) is typically the max for a cpu to not do damage but long time of running at that temp will do damage.. I have and amd a6-6310 overclocked with a $12 heatsink (tower pc) and when running the game it hits 60 degrees, which may feel hot, but the cpu is just getting warmed up.

also because your on a laptop you will feel the heat and a 60 degree surface feels dang hot. you can always by a laptop cooler for a around $30 and will lower the temp around 15-20 degrees if you get a good one. if you live in the States/Canada here some options.

you can find these on amazon too but might be more expensive.

P.S. my rig is 8gb ddr3 ram 1866mhz, an amd a6-6310 overclocked to 2.4ghz quad core, r4 integrated graphics set to 865mb, an ambient temp of 31 degrees (on average) cpu idle temp of 40 (full load 60-70 full load), gpu temp of around 40-60 degrees, and the tower temp of just 34 degrees and I get around 40 fps on medium settings at 1440p resolution. also if you have a duel core cpu your temperature will be raised greatly to to the full load. if you can tell me your full cpu name I can try assisting you more.

also if you have the correct Bios you can push fan speed to 100%, on a full load I have mine to go to 200% fan speed so it super cools really fast. but in a laptop 100% is all I would put it too due to the amount of the time a laptop cpu is at a full load. If you have EIST in your bios enable it so it slows the cpu down when not in operation, so if your cpu is at 2ghz at around 80% work load, when it goes to around 10% it slows the cpu down to 1ghz so your pc stays cooler longer.

Mate latops overheat, you expect it to run cool as a desktop? Unturned uses a lot of resources so the computer heats up pretty fast. As others said change fan settings or just don't play unturned ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
