So, have you ever wondered.
"If there's a makeshift armo, why not a helmet"

Sure you can "find a hat more then find an armor" but, hear me out for a moment.

We would make it about 20-30% less of both protection and durability of a milltary helmet ey?

We would need about 2 leather and 1 scrap to make it.

What do you guys think?

Sounds gud to me. Can't find anything that would make it be bad. Would be nice for PVP server to protect lesser geared individuals from getting KOSed.

If you got shot by a 50 cal, I'd say a helmet wouldn't stop it and your brain would be as good as dead, mushy.

The highest caliber stoppable by a helmet is a 7.62x39mm, (AK-47 round) and you might receive a concussion, then again this isn't real life, it's Unturned but sniper bullets should insta kill you.
