btw I like this idea:
or at least give server owners option to disable/change the min rep before you're "allowed" to kos them.
The thing that is relevant to the topic, is that bandits will have red name displayed, neutrals white and good guys green. This way good guys wont be forced to have to get shot before being able to respond, but can ingage without losing rep.
Also, the displayed name wont stay there for ever but for just a second maybe?
And what does "it sounds like something from battlefield" supposed to mean
also, what if someone had a negative rep ( something like -43 ) just because he had to kill some bandit groupies? or he just had to defend himself several times? you would kill him, would you? :^) the rep is useless in this game, its just a fancy thing. nothing more.
The point is about allowing good rep players (green rep) to gain score if kos a bandit (red rep)
what if someone who just started playing on the server gained bad rep because he resorted to defending himself against someone who had a good rep? ( or didn't have rep at all? ) it would just mark him as a walking target for """""""good guys""""""".
It's important that you gain rep everytime you kill a red named player, even if you shoot first.
This example is quite different from the previous so I don't get what you are trying to say, but the solution remains the same: +rep on kossing red colored players. If someone with good rep is regulary kossing around naked players, then he would have a bad rep at this point (must keep in mind that several exploits on gaining rep should be fixed before turning it into something more serious).
About neutrals kossing idk I'm not jesus, maybe try to think of something instead of just arguing against the good points of a possible better reputation system ^^
you meant the good rep, right? if yes then whats the point of the thread? didnt know you gain positive rep for killing guys with negative rep. also, im not even arguing.
Mine were just suggestions on how a better rep system could be and not how it works now
Ah well probably this kind of idea is already in some other game, but originality was not my primary concern tbh. Not to mention that Unturned is almost entirely based on "copying" other games but thats ok, its part of how this gets developed so I don't have any problems with it.
1) Add a belt or bracelet that shows your player's reputation. Based on your rep it will either be green, red, or white. This allows players to quickly identify which players are most threatening, and really penalizes bandits by revealing that they KOS.
2) Give binoculars a new ability. Whenever zooming in onto a player and left clicking it will show their name, and the color of their reputation. This allows hit-men to easily identify targets, and also allows players to identify who is friendly, and who isn't. I'd limit the range to about 100-150m to prevent identifying players from across the map.
Earning Repuation
In addition to both of these, I'd add a limit to ways you can earn +rep. Healing group members should no longer provide reputation, this would also apply to any players that have been in your group within the last 15 minutes. This prevents groups from just hopping out of a group, being healed, and rejoining. I'd also add different scales of reputation depending on how long they've been hurt. +5 rep for an hour, and +1 rep for instantly being hurt.
Pvp Engagements
In general killing heros/neutrals should yield bad rep, while killing bandits should generally yield good rep.
Killing bandits should only give +rep when you're a hero or neutral. If you kill another bandit while being one yourself it shouldn't reward or penalize you. This should encourage everyone to kill bandits, while preventing KOSers from just getting good rep just for killing anyone they see.
As a bandit, killing a hero or neutral will always result in bad reputation, even if they shoot first. As a hero or neutral, killing another hero or neutral in self defense will yield good repuation. This really penalizes bandits for their bad repuation and discourages heros from killing each other.
